Welcome to Flash Back Friday! With 600+ episodes, we're excited to revisit some of our favorites with our new listeners (and maybe new to our regular listeners).
To cap off Filipino American History Month (October), we're flashing back to some of our favorite interviews with Filipino artists from the past year! We were blown away by not only the amount of Filipino stories, but also the diversity of stories that we've covered in just the past 12 months. We laugh at the quirkiness of the short film Learning Tagalog with Kayla (with writer/director/star Kayla Galang), we discuss the power of Filipino cuisine in the superhero film Lumpia With a Vengeance (with writer/director Patricio Ginelsa and stars April Absynth and Katrina Dimaranan), some tears are shed while discussing death and family obligation in the narrative drama Islands (with writer/director Martin Edralin), and we celebrate A Thousand Cuts, a documentary on Filipino-American journalist and 2021 Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa (with director Ramona Diaz and Bay Area Hip-Hop activist Ruby Ibarra). Happy Filipino American History Month, we can't wait to see what kind of stories 2022 will bring!
Due to time constraints, we couldn't include every Filipino artist interview in this episode, but if you're thirsty for more, check out our coverage of the film The Fabulous Filipino Brothers with writer/director/star Dante Basco, and his sister, co-writer and star Arianna (Boss Bitch) Basco.

We're bringing you another #BasicBitch, and newlywed Erin is updating us on her honeymoon while in Taos, New Mexico. We talk recovering from an epic wedding, eating good food, and farting on famous people. You know, a typical honeymoon.

We have been big fans of Liz Garbus for a long time, and we were lucky enough to have her on our show at Sundance 2020 for her narrative film, Lost Girls. This time, she's back with a portrayal of arguably one of the most influential environmental leaders in our history, Jacques Cousteau. Her film, Becoming Cousteau, documents how he first fell in love with the sea (spoiler alert: it was all because of an accident), how he turned from explorer to activist, his complicated family life, and the mistakes he made along the way to greatness. She gets into the many years it took to gain access (and go through) his archival footage, the importance of sharing his story for future generations, and her insight on being a woman in a male dominated field (and a very successful one, at that). You can find Becoming Cousteau at a theater near you!

Captain Party and Producer Char are recording this #BasicBitch while driving home from Reno after the perfect week! They give you the deets on Erin's epic San Francisco wedding/pub crawl, and their crazy weekend in Reno for the Chili and Beer Festival. Between dancing on the streets of the Mission District to being hungover in a cabana and sleeping our way through a festival, you don't want to miss this one. And also, send Advil!

We've got another Basic Bitch for your earholes, recorded on location at the 2am Club, one of our favorite (and maybe only?) dive bars in Mill Valley. The Bitch Talk family has reunited to go to an event for the film Like A Rolling Stone: The Life and Times of Ben Fong-Torres, but more importantly, because Erin is getting married this week! We get into our anticipation and excitement for the big day, and then Ange and Erin break down their experiences at the recent Women's March (defend our reproductive rights now!), and Producer Char talks about her recent trip to Nashville.

Welcome to Flash Back Friday! With 600+ episodes, we're excited to revisit some of our favorites with our new listeners (and maybe new to our regular listeners). This week we're excited to highlight a film that's streaming and available in select theaters nationwide, Seyran Ates: Sex, Revolution and Islam.
Seyran Ates is a bisexual human rights activist, lawyer, and female imam who is fighting the patriarchy and changing the face of Islam toward a more just and equal world. Sounds easy, right? We sit down with director/writer Nefise Ozkal Lorentzen about why she felt compelled to share this story, some interesting challenges she had along the way, what a sexual revolution really means, and our ability to create change. Seyran Ates: Sex, Revolution and Islam is a powerful documentary that is certain to both inspire you, and show you what a more equitable world can look like.

We're basic bitching about some important life lessons after Ange attempts to go to church, and Producer Char brings Prime Rib leftovers on a plane. Trust us, it's more traumatic (and hilarious!) then it sounds. And then we cap off the episode with an interview from Sundance 2021 with two of our favorite guests, director duo extraordinaire Betsy West and Julie Cohen. Their documentary, My Name is Pauli Murray, is available to stream on Amazon, and to watch in select theaters near you. This is one of our favorite documentaries of the year about a woman who was born in 1910, and has been a trailblazer for everything we're still fighting for today, including women's rights, the LGBTQ community, and Black Lives Matter. Support independent filmmakers and learn about this incredible person!

Last month Erin sat down with a few of her favorite contestants from Top Chef season 18 at the brand new Moxy Oakland Downtown! Chef Maria Mazon, Chef Dawn Burrell, and Chef Nelson German couldn't have been any nicer and honest about the latest season that was shot during the height of the pandemic in Portland, Oregon. We talk about the restrictions and testing they all had to go through while filming the show, how tight the chefs were through it all, how the show has impacted their individual lives, and what they see in their culinary futures. Let us tell you, it was a joy to speak with a panel of chefs of color that are changing the culinary industry. Please support them and the many that are out there on a day-to-day basis feeding us and sharing their culture. A big thank you to Nelson, Maria, and Dawn for their time. We hope to have them on again in the future!

It's part 2 of our "Bitch Talk Takes LA" trip, and we're on location in sunny Sunset Beach, CA. We get into our trip to Disneyland (FYI- we might possibly be the first people to wear vibrators on Splash Mountain), our fancy Prime Rib dinner with friend of the show Richard "The Curse" (no wonder we found a piece of glass in our drink), and how Ange managed to crash her electronic wheelchair in epic fashion. Enjoy!

We are grateful to welcome back to the show, director Justin Chon to talk about his latest film Blue Bayou. The last time we talked with Justin, was back at the Sundance Film Festival in 2019 when he screened the sister/brother drama Ms. Purple. Blue Bayou takes on the conversations around immigration, adoption, police brutality, racism, facing death and interracial marriage - all set in the beautiful landscape of one of our favorite places, New Orleans. Justin and Erin talk about the heavy topics of this film as well as why he landed on using New Orleans as the backdrop to the story, adoption as a capitalistic transaction, why he prefers the Linda Ronstadt version of Blue Bayou , and more.
Blue Bayou is out now in a theater near you. We hope that you will go out and support Korean American independent film and watch Justin's previous work - Gook and Ms. Purple. Both streaming now on multiple platforms.
