Boyd was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in July of 2011 and was told without a stem cell transplant, he wasn’t going to live the year. After nearly a year in and out of the hospital including his cancer relapsing February of 2012, he had a life-saving stem cell transplant, May 3rd of 2012.
A chemotherapy induced brain injury and a virus that caused spinal cord trauma during that year left him permanently medically disabled. But miraculously the stem cell transplant worked!!
Boyd found out in the spring of 2013 that his stem cell donor was an American Naval Serviceman named Nathan who was in Japan when he saved his life! 7 years later he was thrilled to finally meet his donor, Nathan, in person!
During our conversation, Boyd shares what life was like prior to his diagnosis, the symptoms that led him to the doctor, what he did when the cancer relapsed, the stem cell transplant that saved his life and , the powerful effect forgiveness had on him, how running became his new passion, the emotional meeting between him and his donor, and what he does to continue to give back to the cancer community.
