Wickedly Smart Women

Bridging the Racial Divide—with Tresté Loving - EP91

Listen Later

2020 put a spotlight on the systemic racism that continues to inform policing in the US. So, how do we promote racial equity among law enforcement professionals? How do we shift the mindset of people who've been socialized to hate? And what responsibility do you and I have to help people open their hearts?

Tresté Loving is the Founder and President of The Institute for Racial Equity, a training program dedicated to improving race relations between law enforcement professionals and the communities they serve. With 25-plus years of global expertise, Tresté leverages her military experience and dynamic speaking style to dismantle unconscious biases and combat discriminatory behavior from the root, resulting in lasting organizational improvements.

On this episode of Wickedly Smart Women, Tresté joins Anjel to explain how she educates law enforcement officers without talking down to them and helps people explore the socialization that made them who they are. She describes how she found a way to connect with extremists and racists during her career in the Navy, sharing her take on the progress we've made toward racial equity and what's left to do. Listen in for insight on the distinction between racism and discrimination and learn how YOU can be part of the solution and support Tresté in her mission to break through hate.
