Growing a powerful professional profile requires a combination of self-promotion and genuine engagement. If done consistently, it can be a trust accelerator in your career.
It is actually really easy to stand out from your competitors without it costing you a lot of money, find the platforms where you are not going to be ‘diluted’ with the competition, use video and post consistently.
First thing I like to do is monitor the activity and leads I am getting from each platform. I focus on the top two which for me are Linkedin and Youtube. For me these have been the most successful in building a referral network that brings me more leads then I can handle.
Next, I really dissect who my ideal client is that I am needing to market to. Linkedin it is buyers agents, industry colleagues who refer, settlement agents and finance brokers. On Youtube it is investors who are in the process of purchasing their first investment property. You can see that the content I provide on each of these will be different and targeted accordingly.
- Educational content is what it is all about in 2023. People crave it and like to do loads of research. If you are the forefront of this, and provide education and are consistently ‘seen’ you will be the one they call first.
- Content is something that you could find super easy, like myself, or really difficult. Fortunately there are some shortcuts that you can take and some great businesses that provide content for you. If you are a natural, or even if you are not, pay attention to the regular questions you get asked, or emailed every day. Write them down and create a post or record a video answering these questions.
- Make sure your profile is up-to-date and ready to receive all those leads you are about to receive! Ensure it reflects your current professional experience and skills and that people can easily find a mobile number and email address for you.
- Building an online human connection is one of the quickest ways to build trust and be known as the expert in your field, this means that people need to see YOU. Video being the most obvious option, but if you struggle with this, then invest in some professional lifestyle photos. I get new ones every few years to keep my content up to date and engaging. It is also a lot easier to expose yourself when you have nice photos.
- Lastly, consider attending industry events or webinars to grow your professional network and stay up to date on the latest trends.
When creating a strong personal brand, the most important thing to remember is to be YOU, be someone who has the same energy in person and online. People buy from people.
