Some healthcare leaders have been thrust into a leadership role and do what’s needed for their team and organization, especially during these challenging times.
We know you feel conflicted due to internal and external factors that impact you and create a chronic tension between your current reality and what you want as a leader.
Are we right?
The good thing is, you can choose and take control of your own inflection point so that you can move forward as a healthcare leader.
In this episode, we ask you, “What kind of leader do you want to be? One that sacrifices or one that thrives?”
We also talk about the importance of taking a pause to reflect, so you can see the bigger picture, take stock of your current realities, and gain clarity on what you truly desire and need.

Why is self-care not selfish?
It is actually the best thing you can do for your team.
Think about it, when you are putting your team and their needs before your own, day after day, how often do you end up feeling tired, crabby, and drained?
What kind of self-care role model are you being?
It’s easy to see, you can be letting your team down by NOT prioritizing your health and well-being, is it not?
In this podcast, we talk about the importance of “self-care” and how to break through some industry norms and limiting beliefs about taking care of yourself as a healthcare leader.
Also, we discuss different principles and strategies to prioritize your health and well-being, so you can be a good role for your team and organization.

We know many people experienced grief as a result of Covid-19, especially healthcare leaders and frontline staff in the healthcare field.
Although grief is unique to each person, and no one can be compared to one another, there are patterns that significantly impact one’s mind, body, and spirit.
In this episode, nurse executive Lori Wightman shares her personal experience with grief and how she handled it. In addition, she shares some strategies she identified to improve how grief is managed in the workplace.
We discuss her recent article “The Next Chapter: A Leader’s Lessons Learned Through Grief,” and Lori shares how she is helping healthcare leaders and organizations handle grief and establish better support systems for employees.
At the close of the interview, Lori answered a couple of personal questions from our new process called the Missing Questions.

In healthcare one of the leadership norms is leaders sacrifice, they put everyone else first. This is especially true now, during these challenging times.
You’ve been indoctrinated to be a servant leader, always focusing on the needs of the team, the organization, the patients and families, before giving attention to your own needs.
Servant leadership is not a bad thing, until you “over-serve” and neglect yourself.
With this unipolar approach of leadership, healthcare leaders end up burned out, exhausted, and empty.
In this podcast, we discussed redefining leadership norms and taking advantage of our current situation to reset, relook, and reevaluate everything to create a new reality and leadership approach.

In this episode, we talk with co-authors Dr. Mark Goulston and Dr. Diana Hendel about their book Trauma to Triumph: A Roadmap for Leading Through Disruption (and Thriving on the Other Side).
Mark and Diana share how the pandemic traumatizes healthcare leaders, employees, and organizations, sending everyone into survival mode.
In their book, Mark and Diana said that if the crisis is not "named and claimed" as trauma and managed effectively, it's sure to linger on in the form of chronic stress and anxiety. And left unspoken and unaddressed, blame, shame, and guilt often permeate the organization's culture and erode its ability to thrive in the future.
We discussed how trauma affects the individuals and the organization's culture, how institutions can recover from the pandemic, and how healthcare leaders create stability amid uncertainty and traumatic events to become stronger and better on the other side
At the close of the interview, Mark and Diana answered a couple of questions from our new Q&A process called the Missing Questions.

Do you have a vision for your life personally and professionally? In the work we do with healthcare leaders we often find they don’t have a clear vision for their life. Without a clear vision it’s difficult to feel personally aligned, to make mindful choices, or to know what actions to take. As Yogi Berra says, “You got to be careful, if you don’t know where you are going, ‘cause you might not get there”. You end up feeling frustrated, full of regret, and wondering “how did I get here?” In today’s episode we are sharing with you how to create a clear vision for your personal and professional life, so you can be a TRU (Thriving, Resilient, Unstoppable) healthcare leader.

There were a few silver linings in the COVID-19 pandemic. In this episode, we are going to talk with our friend and colleague Bruce Brandes about one of the most significant outcomes of the pandemic, which was the advancement of telehealth. Bruce helps us gain a deeper understanding of virtual care, what it is, and why it is an important component of the future of healthcare and a critical factor in healthcare transformation. We talk about the natural tension between virtual care and in-person care and why it’s not an option to make an either/or choice.
