Comparison is a natural tendency for humans. It can be used to inspire us or tear us down. Most often, subconsciously, we use comparison to self-sabotage, leaving us to play a small game and bring others down with us. The focus of most comparisons is typically the external material aspects of the world, such as money, status, and physical appearance. This feeds the scarcity mindset. But a scarcity mindset isn’t inherently wrong. What’s important is our awareness of when and why we are comparing.

Servant leadership and self-serving leadership are vastly different. Although it may seem that servant leadership would be most beneficial for any group to reach its goals, this style of leadership is rare. Servant leadership has been a buzzword for some time, but it appears that many leaders at all levels of companies and organizations do not embody it. How different would the world be if servant leadership were the norm? Leadership style is a choice and preference by each individual. Choosing to be a servant leader requires much more than strategies, tactics, and mastering the political game. It requires that we continuously face the parts of ourselves that are uncomfortable. We often react to setbacks in a disempowered way. Going backwards feels defeating, especially when we’re making progress and gaining momentum. Empathy has become a buzzword over the years. Being empathetic sounds and looks great, but how empathetic are we actually? Is our empathy fake? How deeply are we connecting with ourselves and others?
