Dale N. Gerding, MD, MACP, FIDSA, FSHEA. Dr. Gerding is a Research Physician at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois (retired). Dr. Gerding's
long and distinguished career includes past president of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, past chair of the antibiotic resistance committee of SHEA and past chair of the National and Global Public Health Committee and the Antibiotic Resistance Subcommittee of IDSA. He was the recipient of the 2013 William S. Middleton Award. The Middleton Award is the highest honor awarded annually by the Biomedical Laboratory Research and Development Service to senior VA biomedical research scientists.
