  • It's Never too Late to Knock on a New Door with Chef Emmanuel Piqueras
Hello listeners! This week we have a conversation with Chef Emmanuel Piqueras.

SPANISH EPISODE AHEAD! Time to practice your skills and enjoy my Mexican and his Peruvian accents.

As the Culinary Ambassador to the U.S. and Canada through Peru’s official tourism authority, Chef Emmanuel Piqueras has generated a new appreciation for Peruvian cuisine in North America.
Highly regarded for Sabor y Fusion, his popular food show on Latin America’s largest international cable network, Piqueras began his career at Arzak (Michelin Guide Three Stars; World’s 50 Best Restaurants). Chef Piqueras went on to lead the kitchens as Executive Chef of Andina (Portland, OR), Mixtura (Seattle, WA), Limon (San Francisco, CA), and Panca (New York City, NY) among others. Now, as Executive Chef/Partner of Pisco Rotisserie & Cevicheria, Piqueras is excited to bring his Novoandina-style cuisine, largely influenced by his experiences growing up in Lima, to Southern California.

After the success of the flagship Pisco Rotisserie & Cevicheria in Liberty Station, Chef Piqueras has launched its second location in Carlsbad in January 2018 alongside business partner and veteran restaurateur Sami Ladeki.

I had so much fun talking to Chef Emmanuel and getting inspired with his story. If you have ever thought that it was too late for you to start something, listen to this episode. You can create opportunity simply by knocking on that door you've been staring at for a while.

  • Using Your Voice with Elsie Escobar
    Hello listeners!

This week we have a conversation with Elsie Escobar.

Elsie Escobar is a ten year plus veteran in the industry and inductee into the Academy of Podcasters Hall of Fame. She knows the heart and soul of podcasters and podcasting beyond Apple Podcasts and public media. It is with this primary point of view of the average podcast listener (via thousands of hours of podcast listening) and independent podcast producer that Elsie brings a unique perspective to the podcasting industry.

Her passion within the industry is podcasting’s rapidly-changing environment, impact, access, community building, and advocacy.

Elsie welcomes the opportunity to elevate existing conversations around podcast consumption and initiate ways to reach new listeners above focusing on metrics, advertising and monetization into social change and using podcasting as a tool for personal growth and transformation.

Elsie has a mentorship group The E-League and it went live for the Spring session this April 2017.
Elsie’s biggest focus is on "podcasting advocacy" meaning bringing awareness about podcasting and podcasters to those that don't know about it, or that don't know "all the things."

We talked about all the things from living in El Salvador to studying theatre and how Elsie got into podcasting back in 2006.

  • Rapidín, Forgiveness
Listeners, we're back this week with a solo episode.

I have been called to tell this story for a few months now. I'm not sure why? I've been trying to avoid doing so because many times I think nobody cares about my personal story. For some reason, the Universe continues to bring this back and perhaps, I'm supposed to share this with you. It's a story about the time I learned to forgive myself when I was hurt the most and I did one of the most painful things.

Now, I express nothing but gratitude for the dark moments so I can enjoy the bright ones. If you're going through a dark moment right now, remember that there's no rainbow without a little rain.

I was vulnerable on this one.

  • Let's Talk About Magic with Hanah Salas aka MagicMama
Hello listeners, this week dove deep with MagicMama!

Hanah Salas, also known as MagicMama, is a Mexican Witchy Woman, a full-time mama of 3 little troll-angels and she runs her own little healing business. Hanah’s business is created out of, with, for and because of love.

Hanah is an energy healer, an upcoming herbalist, and maker of magical healing products. She invests in herself and her communities, using sliding scale donations for much of her medicine and services and often giving away medicine to low-income folx, and also passing on Reiki healing knowledge.

Hanah got started when she was pregnant with her first child 5 years ago. She wanted to make all natural products to use on him. A few years later, she had twins and one was born with a hole in her heart, Hanah began taking different healing modality classes in hopes to help her little one heal.
Little did she know that really she was gifting her with her Love Purpose which is healing with her hands and products. Hanah calls it Love Purpose because she believes everyone’s purpose on earth is to love and be loved.

Listeners, Hanah is truly magical. We had been following each other on Instagram for a while and a recent post prompted our conversation. You'll hear about it on the intro.

We also talk about Reiki, Akashic Records, Astroprojection, and Numerology.

  • The 21st Century Man with Mark Halvorson
Hello listeners! We're back another week and this time we had a conversation with Mark Halvorson!
Mark is a computer hardware & software design engineer by trade, and an entrepreneur. He just started his third business called OkWhereSanDiego.com which helps native San Diegans, and visitors explore San Diego. It’s a database of things to do, but with each experience it provides all the needed info so there is nothing left to do but to just go have fun.

He’s also a Renaissance Man who has been able to put in his 10,000 hours in variety of areas that are all converging at this moment of his life and making his next venture possible.

He is in the process of writing a book called “The Badass 21st Century Man Handbook.” This book is the first of it’s kind. It helps men drop the straightjacket all men wear and helps them finish the job of becoming whole and complete men, who can thrive here in the 21st century where the rules have changed.

Listeners, this conversation with Mark happened outside of the coffee shop because there was a lot of music and chatter, so you will hear this time some outside noises like cars, trucks and buses driving by.

Content warning ahead, if you have the little ones in the car, please be mindful Mark and I talked a lot about human sexuality and he explained this fascinating method he came up with of identifying human identity. I first met Mark at my Toastmasters group and when he first showed me this method, I figured it was an important resource to share as support for the LGBTQ community in advocacy to end the intolerance they constantly with, as well as support social equity for everyone.

I want to highlight that Mark’s hand exercise is simply to help us understand other humans and prevent our own internal questioning about their identity. Ultimately, I want to encourage everyone to always respect individual’s preferences when it comes to identity labels, always ask, and please respectful, particularly with controversial ones (or ones with troubled histories) like "queer" or "fag."
Also, Mark and I talked about his new book the badass 21st-century man handbook and he shared his insight about the men confusion syndrome.

Let me know what you think about this episode! Don't forget to subscribe, rate and review!
