In this episode of Call to Farms, Sophie welcomes Sally Fallon Morell, the founding president of the Weston A. Price Foundation and a champion of traditional nutrition. Sally has been at the forefront of the traditional foods movement for decades, and her groundbreaking cookbook, Nourishing Traditions, has sold over 600,000 copies, challenging conventional nutritional wisdom.
We'll dive into Sally’s journey, exploring how she discovered the work of Dr. Weston A. Price and what motivated her to establish the Weston A. Price Foundation. They discuss the vital role of traditional animal fats and raw milk in a healthy diet, and we’ll have a frank discussion about MSG—its effects, misconceptions, and its presence in both Asian cuisine and ultra-processed foods.
Sally will share practical tips for eating healthy in modern times, dispelling the myth that you need to be wealthy or own acres of land to feed your family nutrient-dense foods. She offers advice for working moms in the inner city and busy families on how to prepare nourishing meals on a budget and with limited time, emphasizing the importance of both parents sharing cooking responsibilities.
Finally, don’t miss the Wise Traditions Conference in Orlando from October 25-27, where both Sally and Sophie will be speaking along with other leaders in the traditional foods movement.
Join us for this wide-ranging conversation that covers everything from controversial animal fats and MSG to modern diets and practical tips for feeding your family nutrient-rich meals.

In this engaging episode, we sit down with our friends Shawn and Beth Dougherty, veteran homesteaders who have been farming together since the 1980s. For the past 20 years, they’ve been cultivating their 27-acre farm in eastern Ohio—land officially deemed “not suitable for agriculture.” Despite the odds, Shawn and Beth have transformed this landscape into a thriving, self-sustaining ecosystem using sunlight, rainfall, and intensive grazing as their primary inputs. Their farm supports dairy and beef cows, sheep, farm-fed hogs, and poultry, producing nearly all their food and feed on-site.
Learn more about Shawn and Beth on their website or find them speaking at a Homesteading Conference or Festival near you.

In this episode, Sophie interviews Tim on how he answered the call to farms. Growing up as a second generation, Asian American and the eldest of two sons, Tim felt the pressures of having to perform and meet his parents' high expectations. This mindset of obedience, and failure not being an option, would help him succeed at West Point, making him the most unlikely candidate to ever question authority. Tune in to his journey on how he overcame the indoctrination but was able to use the skills and experiences he learned from West Point combined with his values to become the Homesteading Realtor. Today, Tim has made it his mission to empower others to purchase property and grow their own food. Tim and Sophie give an update on the latest happenings which include Sophie's recent book tour in California as well as a housing market update. This is an episode you do not want to miss.

In this episode, Tim and Sophie interview Chef James Barry, founder and owner of Pluck! Chef James discusses his culinary journey which began as a private chef for Tom Cruise, Gerard Butler and George Clooney to name a few. Instead of adapting his cooking to particular diets, he opened up his clients' palates to enjoying nourishing, whole foods using animal fats and butter. Chef James loves to think outside the box and is fascinated with how we as humans can make changes to improve health by making minor daily shifts in how we eat to retrain our brain to slow down as we eat so that we can enjoy the meal and allow our body the time to digest. He is a believer of listening to our bodies and being in tune with what we eat and knowing where it comes from. Chef James dispels the myth that you have to eat organic and grass fed all the time. Instead, he places more emphasis on intentional eating and putting in positive energy to what we eat. This led him to creating his company Pluck which is a quick and easy way to introduce your loved ones to organ based foods by sprinkling it on your foods as a seasoning. Tune in to this fascinating discussion as we go beyond gourmet dishes and mainstream diets to discover what it takes to eat intentionally and be healthier.
Be sure to check out Pluck and get some of this delicious organ based seasoning for yourself and your loved ones. We personally enjoy it on our popcorn! Use code: SPRINKLE to save 15% on your order.
