We’re joined by Cinema journalist, Toby Rose, proud founder of the Palm’ Dog who is highlighting the wins for dogs in films at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. In a historic moment, the ceremony's two big prizes went to films directed by women - and also to female dog characters. The Palm Dog Award is held annually at a beachfront location on the last Friday of the Cannes Film Festival. It celebrates canine performances in all films screened at Cannes and is the world’s longest running ceremony of its kind. Founded in 2001 by film journalist Toby Rose with a mission to give equal celebration to Canines at Cannes as their human co-stars. The sister ceremony, the FIDOS (For Incredible Dogs on Screen) is held annually in London, since 2007 for canine performances across all UK film releases in any given year. Former winners include Kodi from Dog on Trial, Messi from Anatomy of a Fall, Brandy from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Smurf from Sightseers and Uggie from The Artist.
