The Heart Foundation has decided the time is right to pull the tick from products after 25 years.
The New Zealand Food and Grocery Council chief executive Katherine Rich, said star ratings are considered more representative of today's nutritional requirements.
Ms Rich laments the move due to the high recognition consumers gave it, though understands the Foundation's decision.
She said the announcement comes just a day after supermarkets pledged to work on government childhood obesity initiatives.
