  • The Unique Impact Of ‘Griselda’ With Aurora Cossio

The Netflix drama series ‘Griselda’ explores the highly interesting but deeply controversial life of Griselda Blanco, the mind behind one of the most profitable cartels the world has ever known. Corinna Bellizzi sits down with Colombian-Italian actress and producer Aurora Cossio, who plays the character Estella in the series. She shares what it is like to act alongside Sofia Vergara, who plays the titular character, as well as how ‘Griselda’ revolutionizes Hollywood’s perception of Latino talent and culture. Aurora also discusses her advocacy to help people gain self-confidence, unlock a positive mindset, and improve their lifestyle using her background in psychology and her inspiring Instagram account.

    About Guest:

Versatile and talented Colombian/Italian actress and producer, Aurora Cossio, takes center stage in the crime drama Netflix series “Griselda,” which debuted worldwide and is already #1 in multiple countries as it streams on Netflix. Cossio portrays Estela, a pivotal character opposite Sofia Vergara’s formidable crime boss, Griselda Blanco, in the series. “Griselda,” adds to Cossio’s incredibly diverse body of work, including her comedic work early in her career in Italy; she also speaks three languages—English, Spanish and Italian and works consistently in multiple countries.

In Italy, Cossio’s comedic prowess gained immense popularity with the release of “Faccio un salto all’avana” in 2010. Notably, she not only took on the leading role but also served as the executive producer for the film. This comedy, which is now available on Netflix Italy, marked a turning point in her career as she was honored with the “Mirto d’oro” Award for the best leading role. Furthermore, her collaboration with esteemed directors and co-stars in Italy has been a testament to her versatility and talent.

Cossio has been a part of successful projects globally, including her role in the second season of ‘La Selecciòn’ and appearances in renowned series like “La Reina del Sur” and “Verdad Oculta.” Her recent portrayal of Stg Melissa Downs in the 2021 film “The Ritual Killer” alongside Morgan Freeman and Cole Hauser further attests to her international acclaim.

While Cossio currently resides in Santa Monica, California, she frequently shuttles between Italy and Colombia, maintaining a consistent presence in the industry. With her extensive training from premiere acting academies across the globe, Cossio continues to captivate audiences with her compelling performances and harbors a keen ambition to produce a film based on her life story, aptly titled “All for a Dream.”

Beyond her on-screen achievements, she has also ventured into psychology and founded the Good Morning Happiness brand, fostering a community built on laughter, love, and joy. As she embarks on her journey in the global entertainment industry, Aurora Cossio remains a force to be reckoned with, blending her multifaceted talents as an actress, producer, and advocate for happiness and community building.

  • Transform Your Health With Greener, Cleaner Living | Chef Babette Davis

Get to know Chef Babette Davis, a survivor who shares how she moved from a meat-eater who suffered from many health ailments including eczema, acne, digestive issues and drug addiction to become a plant-based lifestyle icon. Today, she thrives as a vivacious and beautiful woman in her 70s who looks as though she stopped the clock in her 40s when she went full vegan.

Chef Babette even opened a vegan restaurant in her hometown of Inglewood, California in East Los Angeles area. She didn't go vegan for any ethical reason, at least not in the beginning. Today, she speaks for animals, against our cruel food systems, and operates as a willing spokesperson for Mercy For Animals, and even spoke at an event on their behalf in fall of 2022. She has made it her personal mission to help people reach optimal health by eating "something alive" in every meal they consume.

We discuss the recent Netflix documentary that featured a twin-study performed at Stanford University, "You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment". If you watch the video version of this podcast, you will see Chef Babette in all her glory, a woman in her 70s who has had no difficulty maintaining muscle mass as a vegan and fitness enthusiast.

You will also receive simple and actionable recommendations for how you can make a bigger impact by reducing your consumption overall, and even consider following Jonathan Safran Foer's recommendation of going "vegan before dinner".

    About Guest:

Chef Babette is a world-known vegan chef, fitness enthusiast, and motivational speaker. She runs a successful restaurant, “Stuff I Eat”, which was the first plant-based restaurant in Inglewood. Not only does Chef Babette have a massive fan base on social media but she participates in global health and wellness speaking engagements on a yearly basis. Fresh off her 73rd birthday, she truly is a force of nature who can do it all.

Becoming a self-taught chemist in the kitchen, Babette has perfected eating healthy while keeping her dishes tasting out of this world. Her combination of mindful preparation of food and fitness has allowed her to enjoy the meals she loves without the guilt. Her goal is to share her knowledge with others, and be a catalyst to get people moving and eating healthy! As she so eloquently says, "It’s important to not only have longevity, but to live a life of quality."

The concept of Blue Mind has been around since the beginning of recorded human history. At present, Marine biologist Dr. Wallace J. Nichols advocates for this very concept, spreading the positive impact of water on our lives. Joining Corinna Bellizzi, he talks about his book “Blue Mind” and how being in, on, or under water delivers profound transformation deep within yourself. He discusses how spending as little as 23 minutes around water – or just the feeling of it – could elevate your health and bring happiness to your state of mind. He also shares how he uses a small blue marble to spread awareness about his advocacy, educating everyone regarding their important role in saving our beloved water planet.

    About Guest:

Dr. Wallace J. Nichols (J) has been called a water warrior, one who commits to helping others access their “blue mind state.” His visionary ideas related to ocean and aquatic ecosystems, migratory species, marine protected areas, fisheries management and plastic pollution inspire others to find a deeper connection with nature and embrace inventive approaches to issues ranging from protection of ocean life to global water supply to the mental health benefits of a life spent on or near the water.

Formerly a senior scientist at Ocean Conservancy, J holds a M.E.M. degree in Natural Resource Economics and Policy from Duke University and a Ph.D. degree in Wildlife Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona. He received a Bradley Fellowship to study the impacts of sea level rise at Duke University Marine Lab, a Marshall Fellowship to study at the University of Arizona, and a Fulbright Fellowship to study at the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico marine station in Mazatlán. In 2011 he was inducted as a Fellow National member of the Explorers Club. In 2014 he received the University of Arizona's Global Achievement Award.

J has authored more than 200 publications, lectured in more than 30 countries and nearly all 50 states, and appeared in hundreds of media outlets including NPR, BBC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, National Geographic, Animal Planet, Time, Newsweek, GQ, Outside Magazine, USA Today, Elle, Vogue, Fast Company, Surfer magazine, Scientific American, and New Scientist. His book Blue Mind, published in summer 2014 by Little, Brown & Company, quickly became a national bestseller. It has been translated into numerous languages, most recently Mandarin, and inspired a wave of media and practical application.

  • How Eco-Fiction Can Push Forward The Fight Against Climate Crisis With George Paxinos

The climate crisis is worsening each day that passes, and yet society continues to turn a blind eye to its alarming impact on the entire planet. Climate activist George Paxinos, celebrated as the world’s most cited neuroscientist, has decided to try a different approach to catch everyone’s attention regarding this matter: eco-fiction. Sitting down with Corinna Bellizzi, he talks about his first novel, A River Divided, a story about two parties fighting over the Amazon Rainforest. George explains how his narrative aims to challenge readers to stand up and take part in the battle of nature versus nurture. He also discusses his goal to have a reset of religion, science, and culture, as well as how the ethics of scientific exploration and climate crisis might intersect.

    About George Paxinos

George Paxinos is a visionary neuroscientist who has discovered and mapped more brain regions than anyone in history. He uses principles of the mind, free will, and consciousness from neuroscience to shape the characters of his eco-fiction novel, A River Divided. An environmentalist himself, his novel explores some of the most important questions of the 21st Century: Is the human brain capable of solving the environmental crisis it created? Is this generation creating the conditions for the extinction of its progeny? In a battle of nature versus nurture, which will be victorious?

Science and idealism are woven together in this novel about the search for meaning, for love, and for an understanding of what is important for us both as individuals and as actors in the environment. The characters of A River Divided will stay with you long after you read the powerful and evocative last sentence: “A Child, I will bring to the world a child.”

  • FOREVER YOUNG RADIO SHOW: How To Turn Your Metabolic Fire Back On with Dr. William Li, NYT Bestselling Author of Eat To Beat Your Diet

Republished with permission and with thanks to Kelly Cappasola and the Forever Young Radio Show Team.

I was honored to co-host this interview episode with my favorite doctor in health & wellness, Dr. William Li. This will be the 3rd time my loyal listeners have heard from him on this podcast, and for followers of Nutrition Without Compromise, you may also have heard from him there. It's my sincere pleasure to share this deep dive with you, as Kelly and I worked to glean important information from Dr. Li - providing tools to any listener to help them turn their metabolic fire back on - so we can live our longest, fullest, and healthiest lives together. -- Corinna Bellizzi, host of Care More Be Better.

    SHOW NOTES:

The pioneering physician scientist behind the New York Times bestseller Eat to Beat Disease reveals the science of eating your way to healthy

weight loss. In his first groundbreaking book, Dr. William Li explored the world of food as medicine. By eating foods that you already enjoy, like tomatoes,

blueberries, sourdough bread, and dark chocolate your body activates its five health defense systems to fight cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular,

neurodegenerative autoimmune diseases, and other debilitating conditions.

Now in Eat to Beat Your Diet, Dr. Li introduces the surprising new science of weight loss, revealing healthy body fat can help you lose weight; your metabolism at 60 can be the same as when you were 20; yo-yo dieting can be good for your health; 8-hour fasting windows can be as effective as 12-hour fasting windows; and losing just a little bit of weight can have big impacts on your health. Eat to Beat Your Diet shows readers how adding the right foods to your diet can heal your metabolism, reduce unhealthy body fat, and result in the kind of weight loss that can increase your lifespan and help you thrive.

This week, I'm thrilled to share a few of my reflections and takeaways after reviewing my top episodes of all time after 3 years of podcasting. This will be our 168th episode. The primary goal of this podcast episode is to connect with my audience. What have you liked over the past 3 years? What haven't you liked? And indeed what would you like to see more of?

The primary categories we've covered in this time are:

    • Social Impact
    • Sustainability, Regeneration and Circularity
    • Health & Wellness

Generally, there have been 2 formats to the show. The first is the primary format -- interviews. The second is solocasts -- which are journalistic deep dives in to a particular topic, book or issue. The third is a screen shared commentary with a few different guests in a panel format (though these are rare). And we've also shared bonus episodes, where I have guested on other shows, primarily in the health & wellness space that I call my professional home.

Our top podcast after 3 years of podcasting are:

So where do we head from here? Questions:

    1. What do you want to see more of? Interviews? Solocasts and deep dives by yours truly? Both? Something else?
    2. Do you want to continue to hear about health and wellness topics? Other topics?
    3. Is there something you feel this podcast is lacking that would make it better? It could be news updates, or a second episode each week. While I'm not able to promise these things right now, if I hear from you that they're important enough, I may be able to move mountains and make it happen.
    4. Who do you want to hear from on this show? YOU CAN RECOMMEND GUESTS -- AND EVEN ASK TO COME ON YOURSELF! What's the worse that could happen? I could say no -- but we could also become friends IRL the way Beth Craig and I have. The sky is the limit! Dream BIG.

  • The Hard And Noble Work Towards Education Equity With Rosalinda Agana

Around 95% of girls in the most disadvantaged African rural communities never completed senior high school. Rosalinda Agana grew up in Northern Ghana and experienced the lack of access to quality education herself. But now, she is on a mission to build education equity on a global scale. Joining Corinna Bellizzi, she shares how she completed her education against great odds, got a scholarship through CAMFED Association, and is now giving back to her community through her not-for-profit organization. Rosalinda talks about her work to help young people get the education they deserve regardless of race, skin color, or social status. She also discusses how she teaches farmers adopt more sustainable farming systems and small business owners to eliminate the use of plastic packaging.

    About Rosalinda Agana:

Rosalinda Agana grew up in Northern Ghana and completed her education against great odds. Selected to receive a CAMFED scholarship to study law, Rosalinda joined the pan-African CAMFED Association of women leaders. She is trained as a Learner Guide, delivering CAMFED’s self-development curriculum to marginalized students. At university, Rosalinda founded a non-profit organization to support teenage mothers with income-generating skills. In 2019, she started a climate-smart agriculture enterprise, providing employment for rural women, growing and processing peanuts, soya, and potatoes. A passionate youth advocate, Rosalinda’s platforms have included the Youth Diplomacy Summit in Accra, the Baobab Summit in Kigali, and the Youth Agriculture Summit in Brasilia. She is pursuing her Master’s degree in Sustainable International Development at Brandeis University, USA.
