Most of us have been badly hurt by our own weaknesses. Times that we've let ourselves down or forgotten something critically important can really sear into our memory. Worse, most of us have also hurt those we love. Sometimes that can seem unforgivable. Honestly I wouldn't want to be friends with someone else who's hurt me as much as I've hurt myself. Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as I talk about how we're called to love ourselves despite these critically painful weaknesses that can just feel overwhelming. I explore how they manifest in our lives and discuss several examples that can be particularly difficult to forgive. Ultimately, we are all children of God. Even Hitler, Stalin (or whoever you think was a particularly horrible human being) was still loved by God and made in His image. Judgement of people is reserved for the Lord alone. We must love. If you are reading this, there's a good chance you are living in one form of poverty right now. Don't believe me? Give me a moment to explain. Mother Theresa, upon landing in the United States for the first time, exclaimed she had never been to such an impoverished country. She wasn't talking about money - but about emotional and spiritual poverty. Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as Mike Tenbusch describes his lifelong work against poverty both here at home in the US and in the world at large. We talk about how our communities and homes are deeply impoverished emotionally and spiritually. We talk about how we Catholic men in particular are called to provide a counter example to the world. One topic almost sure to provoke disagreement, if not offense, is how to discipline children. Many people I deeply respect are hesitant to speak publicly about this divisive issue. With that caution in mind, I recorded this episode. Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men for a discussion about children's discipline. I try to start with some basics that most people should agree with and slowly build into areas that are more contentious. Hopefully, this episode will provide a starting point for a healthy and constructive conversation with your spouse. Remember to always hold such a conversation with charity! Intellectually we know that science and the Catholic faith have to line up - but the world screams that they don't. Well, what if the world is wrong? What if science itself can prove that the Bible and the Christian faith is true? Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as my guest Doug Ell and I talk about how we understand our faith in light of our scientific wisdom. This episode is a little bit different. Instead of purely being an interview, it's more like two scientists sitting around a campfire discussing theology. We've all watched our children attend to a story. They love hearing stories - even (or perhaps especially) stories they already know. Stories penetrate our mental defenses. They help define who we are. We all have stories; sharing our them is important. Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as my guest Joseph Bolton and I talk about his story that is captured in his new book. This is a powerful story that connects us to the saints that preceded us. We also discuss the story of how God called him to write this book. We even talk a little bit about music and the youth. Technology is amazing; it lets us do everything from our jobs to ordering food without ever leaving our home. That's great, right? Well, actually, it turns out that some new data shows that loneliness and depression are at record levels, particularly among the younger generations, and most particularly in men. Our parishes were supposed to be a place where we gather to connect, support, and reach each other. Instead, too many people pull a Judas - receive the sacrament and run away. Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as my guest Terry Poplava discuss this survey data and some practical ideas about what we all can do to help make a difference. We need human connection; the data is overwhelming. We need to reclaim our parishes not only as a place of one hour of worship, but also as a place of connection and community. To learn more about what Terry's organization is doing to help, check out his website at https://www.acstechnologies.com/acst-catholic/. There are a lot of fitness coaches and instructors out there. The diverse array of food and exercise plans can be overwhelming! Worse, a lot of them aren't transparent about their fees and agendas. What would be different if you had a Catholic fitness coach? Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as my guest Chase Crouse explains his approach to combine faith and fitness in his business Hypuro Fit, the world's first Catholic-based personal training and nutrition coaching company. We start off discussing why we believe it's important to be healthy as Catholic men - and what a reasonable level of health looks like. We go into food, exercise, and what makes his company unique. To learn more about why you need self mastery in order to fully give yourself to your loved ones, check out Hypuro Fit's website. Also, I'm announcing my course on Anger. There's a lot of theories about what food is healthy to eat right now. What's even worse, it seems very likely that it may legitimately be very different for different people. How are we supposed to navigate this mess and be healthy? Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as my guest Andy Felton explains his theological approach to food and diet. He creates an argument for food from a Biblical perspective. While the Biblical teachings about food and diet are nowhere near as clear as other moral areas, what is present is powerful. You can find Andy's book Nourished By Design on Amazon. Also, I'm announcing my course on Anger. While there's always been a wide diversity of ideas, our culture today seems particularly emotionally divided. It's hard to have a calm and constructive conversation with someone who thinks differently than you. What if these differences of though, perspective, and value were actually meant to help bring us together as people. What if they were an essential part of God's plan to find balance in a sinful world? Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as I explain how political divide, at its core, is present in the Bible. It's a key part of God's salvation plan for mankind. We need to understand what's underneath these differences - and how to value them - to really connect with others who think differently. If we're willing to put in that extra work of curiosity, we can reach people's hearts. Also, I'm announcing my course on Anger. Have you ever noticed that women seem to be more eager to talk than men? Indeed, modern science suggests women on average use at least twice as many words in a day as men. It's one thing to know that - but as a husband, what do I do about it?
Join me in this episode as I present a simple and fun concept about how marriage communication works: the Meadow Report. If you lean into and embrace giving your wife what she needs to feel loved and supported, she's way more likely to support you as well. Furthermore, it's what Christ calls us husband to do.
