On the day of Paul Pierce's jersey being retired, Celtics fans everywhere were hoping to see the Celtics win and raise #34 to the rafters with pride. Unfortunately, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers had other plans. The new look Cavaliers team dismantled the Celtics at home and the Celtics continue a downward spiral.
From falling into the Boston Celtics’ laps as the 10th pick in the 98’ draft to Finals MVP in ’08 to this momentous day nearly 10 years later, Paul Pierce’s No. 34 jersey will be raised to the TD Garden rafters today alongside the true greats in franchise history.
The fact that Pierce’s honor comes in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James – arguably his greatest rival – makes this day that much sweeter.
Plus, the Cavs roster will look much different than the last time these two clubs met on Jan. 3.

BOSTON -
It was fun to team up with my longtime co-host on Beats and Eats pop-culture podcast, Ty Ray. We hopped on the Celtics News Feed to tip off Paul Pierce weekend. Yes, we are referring to his number being retired as a “weekend.”
The Truth's jersey retirement festivities gave Ty and I the opportunity to take ourselves way too seriously and talk some Celtics franchise history. Years ago, on Beats and Eats, we would have a short "Top 5” segment on pop-culture topics with hokey music and the works. We've long since retired that segment and are "semi-retired" with the podcast entirely, but how could we pass up an opportunity to get cheesy and talk Celtics history? Maybe annoy a fan or two?
Of course, we got so off the rails that we barely even talked about Pierce. Did he even make the list?
Anyway, I hope you have fun listening to our Top 5 Celtics Retired Numbers Quickcast:

The Boston Celtics couldn't come back from over 25 down tonight against the Indiana Pacers. In what seems like a norm somehow the Celtics had numerous chances in the fourth quarter to take or build on a lead. They could not take advantage and Victor Oladipo did a good job of shutting the door on the Celtics.
The NBA trade deadline has officially passed. The Cavaliers made a flurry of moves, two of which including shipping out Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder. The Celtics chose to stand pat, as they couldn't seem to find any good bargain deals. The team is expected to be pretty active on the buyout market, with Joe Johnson being considered as a top candidate.
The C's will take on the Indiana Pacers at home tonight to kick off a three-game homestand.
Paul Pierce's retirement ceremony is this Sunday at TD Garden, so make sure to be on the lookout for any and all coverage brought to you by CLNS Media.

On the same day the Cleveland Cavaliers tried remaking their team into an NBA title contender on the fly, the Boston Celtics unveiled their newest addition during a 110-104 overtime win at the Washington Wizards.
This nationally televised Celtics-Wizards matchup – Boston’s first visit to the Nation’s Capital since last spring’s Eastern Conference semifinals series – saw new addition Greg Monroe make his much awaited Celtics debut.
Monroe played nearly 20 minutes and chipped in across the box score with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, and was second on the team in plus/minus with a plus-9 net rating.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, Jae Crowder, Derrick Rose, Iman Shumpert and Dwyane Wade in an effort to totally retool their roster around LeBron James.
They've brought in Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance, Rodney Hood and George Hill.
The Celtics look to avenge their Christmas Day loss against the Wizards at the nation's capital. Jake Whitacre of SB Nation updates us on what's going on in Washington D.C. surrounding John Wall and what Bradley Beal and Marcin Gortat believe they're a better team without their All-Star point guard.
After suffering a tough loss to the hand of the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night, the Celtics will look to bounce back against another playoff contender in the Washington Wizards. The Celtics will likely play this game with Greg Monroe as he heads to D.C today to officially sign with the Celtics. Today is the trade deadline and rumors continue to swirl all over the league.
The Celtics lost one potential trade target as Lou Williams signed an extension with the Clippers. Meanwhile, the staring match between Boston, Memphis and others continues on the subject of Tyreke Evans. Boston is shopping Marcus Smart for a first-rounder, which would be used on Evans.
Greg Monroe flies to Washington, will officially sign with Celtics following NBA Trade Deadline.
