ESL teachers usually agree that students need to have an understanding of grammar. To be effective speakers and writers in their L2, students need to use proper grammar.  The question remains, what exactly are the most effective methods for teaching grammar.

Here, teachers do disagree on what types of grammar teaching methods are the most effective. Some teachers begin their classes with prescribed grammar exercises, one lesson following and building upon the next. Some try to bring it up more organically in classroom settings and address it only when errors occur, but what does the research show?

If your classroom looks anything like mine, addressing learning differences is a real necessity. So few educators (me included) feel like they have been adequately prepared to meet the needs of L2 learners with disabilities.
