In today’s episode, host Lindsay Pinchuk is joined in conversation with special guest Allie Danziger, Founder of Ampersand to discuss how she is improving the future of hiring for companies across the country.
Allie has worked as long as she remembers, moving to New York City after college and starting a career in PR. After founding her own PR agency at 24, selling it, and exiting years later, Allie had ample experience in the hiring process and often relied on interns. The gap in hiring qualified interns is ultimately what inspired Allie to found Ampersand, an internship recruiting and training platform dedicated to upskilling a diverse group of young professionals and connecting them with the right job opportunities. Through her program, Allie is providing hard-working young professionals everywhere with the opportunity to find their dream job by increasing their competency in the basic skills needed in entry-level jobs.
Tune into this week’s episode of Dear FoundHer… for a conversation about the future of hiring. Learn more about the importance of hiring a diverse staff, learning from your mistakes, and being open to change so that you can recruit, hire, and retain the best-qualified employees for your company.
Quotes
• “From the professional side, we're focused on democratizing access and getting that first internship. And on the business side, we are really focused on increasing diversity in corporations.” (16:32-16:44)
• “Right before a call with an investor, I would make sure that there was something good on my Instagram or my LinkedIn so that when they went to go look me up, there was something there. I was getting PR coverage on myself.” (29:56-30:07)
• “I truly want to change the way that young professionals get their first internship and how businesses hire interns.” (34:08-34:18)
• “Some of the things that the young professionals are asking for today are driving managers crazy, and they're not changing the way that they work and because of that, it's hard to hire and it's hard to retain. But if we could just make some quick and easy changes to the way that we communicate and assign projects, you can make a lot of headway.” (38:17-38:38)
• “You have to make mistakes and you have to test things. You cannot be afraid to fail because the greatest moments of growth are from those failures.” (41:26-41:36)
