  • Helicopter company fighting forfeit of choppers over illegal crayfish sales
    A Queenstown helicopter company will fight any attempts to seize two of its choppers after being found guilty of illegally taking and selling crayfish to hotel guests. Earlier this week the Helicopter Line Limited was fined $12,000 for four breaches of the fisheries act. MPI says the company was flying customers by helicopter to remote locations in Fiordland to see crays being caught by a diver, and were later served the catch at the Rees Hotel. Fisheries New Zealand's Director for Fisheries Compliance spoke to Lisa Owen.

    Convenient cash is what Kiwis want, according to the results of a Reserve Bank money survey. It found almost 57% of the 6000 people surveyed used cash to pay for everyday things. Almost 20% of the population has been unable to use cash at some point in the past three months because it wasn't accepted. Retail NZ CEO, Carolyn Young spoke to Lisa Owen.

    Big money basketball is back with the New Zealand Breakers tipping off the Ignite Cup in Auckland tonight. The Breakers won the in-season tournament last season and banked $300,000 AUD. This season the prize money pool is even bigger. Sports reporter Felicity Reid spoke to Lisa Owen.

    A Rotorua tech organisation that has upskilling rangatahi at the core of its DNA has received a funding boost of more than $600,000. The Digital Natives Academy helps young people get re-engaged with learning, offering digital and creative tech with a Te Ao Maori focus.   • How are GPs and nurses juggling ADHD diagnoses so far?
    Nurse practitioners and GPs have been flooded with patients seeking ADHD assessments since they were given the authority to diagnose the condition and prescribe medication. A February rule change was made to tackle a massive backlog of patients, who were sometimes waiting longer than a year for a diagnosis when only psychiatrists and paediatricians had that power. In the first story of her two-part series exploring how the changes have played out so far, Evie Richardson delves into how health professionals are handling the extra workload.

  • Government hits back at claims NZ broke climate promises
    The government has come out swinging at those claiming New Zealand has broken its climate change promises in the free trade agreement with the EU. A Dutch environmental group has lodged the first complaint of its kind through the European Commission's complaints mechanism, and says it could be precedent setting. The most extreme consequences could be losing access to the lucrative European market, but the group is seeking compliance rather than the suspension of trade benefits. Politcal reporter Lilian Hanly has more.
