He ties his donkey to the vine, his colt to the choicest branch. He washes his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes. — Genesis 49:11

Binding His foal to the choice vine. Jacob's blessing on Judah points to Christ, the true Vine. The vineyard the Lord planted, expecting good grapes but getting wild ones. Israel was a noble vine, but became a degenerate plant. Jesus as the true vine and the Father as the vinedresser.

Let your gentleness be apparent to all. The Lord is near. — Philippians 4:5

The Lord is at hand. Not far off, not delayed—near. The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout. Closes with "Surely I am coming quickly," and the church responds "Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! Be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless.

Now, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. — Galatians 5:11

The offense of the cross. The cross saves, but it also offends. It tells us we can't save ourselves—and that's humiliating. If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. That friendship with the world is enmity with God.

And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us. — Romans 5:5

Hope does not put us to shame. Not because we're hopeful enough, but because the object of our hope is reliable. Those who wait for the Lord will not be ashamed. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord—he won't be anxious in drought. Hope as an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast, entering the inner veil where Jesus has gone as our forerunner.

When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul. — Psalm 94:19

In the multitude of my anxious thoughts, Your comforts delight my soul. The thoughts come like a flood—worries, fears, second-guessing. Psalm 61:2 says "When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. Second Corinthians 12:9 promises "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. Jesus saying to the paralytic, "Take heart, Son; your sins are forgiven. The comforts of God don't just silence your anxious thoughts—they replace them with something better.

For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even till death. — Psalm 48:14

This God is our God forever and ever; He will guide us even to death. Not a God, not a local deity—this God, the God of Jacob, the God of Abraham, the God who keeps covenant. Isaiah 25:1 says "O Lord, You are my God—I will exalt You. The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup. Psalm 73:23-26 says "Whom have I in heaven but You? He's not just guiding you to the end—He's your portion beyond the end.

So now we call the arrogant blessed. Not only do evildoers prosper, they even test God and escape.’” — Malachi 3:15

"Now we call the proud happy". The people in Malachi's day envied the arrogant—and we do the same. God dwells with the contrite and lowly in spirit, not the proud. 's better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud. Starts the Beatitudes with "Blessed are the poor in spirit. Is the right prayer: "Search me, O God, and see if there's any offensive way in me. Don't envy the proud; they're the ones to be pitied.

He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful. — John 15:2

Every branch that bears fruit He prunes. Not the fruitless branches—those get cut off. The fruit-bearing ones get pruned so they bear more. The Lord as a refiner's fire and a purifier's soap, sitting as a refiner to purify the sons of Levi. Tribulation produces perseverance, character, and hope.

But the LORD’s portion is His people, Jacob His allotted inheritance. — Deuteronomy 32:9

The Lord's portion is His people. This in his song—and it's staggering. We're God's fellow workers, God's field, God's building. Song of Solomon 7:10 says "I am my beloved's, and His desire is toward me. God's special treasure. The riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. — Isaiah 9:6

His name shall be called Wonderful. Not just one of His names—the name that encompasses all the others. The Word became flesh and we beheld His glory, full of grace and truth. He has magnified His word above all His name. Immanuel—God with us.
