Canyon Ministries exists to help people encounter God in the outdoors, using places like the Grand Canyon as living classrooms. Through guided hikes, rim walks, backpacking trips, river adventures, and outdoor teaching experiences, they invite people to slow down, look closely, and reconnect with their Creator.

While Canyon Ministries is known for thoughtful creation apologetics, their deeper aim is relational—helping guests experience awe, ask honest questions, and recognize that nature is not just something to admire, but a place where God speaks. Whether someone comes curious, skeptical, or already grounded in faith, the goal is the same: to foster meaningful moments in wild places where hearts are stirred, faith is strengthened, and people walk away more aware of God's presence than when they arrived.

Nate Loper is an outdoor educator, speaker, and veteran Grand Canyon guide with decades of experience helping people connect faith, science, and the natural world. He has spent years teaching in some of the most dramatic landscapes on earth, with the Grand Canyon serving as his primary classroom. Known for his clear communication and grounded approach, Nate blends geology, history, and Scripture in a way that is accessible, thoughtful, and rooted in real-world observation.

Nate has played a central role in the growth and mission of Canyon Ministries, serving in leadership and guiding roles while helping shape its vision, teaching philosophy, and outdoor programs. Through leading and developing daily rim tours, inner-canyon hikes, multi-day backpacking trips, and Colorado River expeditions, he has helped thousands experience the canyon not just as a scenic wonder, but as a place that points clearly to the Creator.

Beyond apologetics and geology, Nate's heart is for people. His work with Canyon Ministries has always emphasized relationship—creating space in the outdoors for honest questions, quiet reflection, and moments where God's presence feels unmistakably close. Whether standing on the rim at sunrise or sitting in a chair circle along the river, Nate sees the outdoors as one of the most powerful settings for spiritual clarity, renewal, and growth.

Today's guest goes by the name Jagger, he hails from NW Montana. Jagger was born with spina bifida but that doesn't stop him from doing what he loves to do. He loves all things outdoors but like a lot of my guests, he is most passionate about Turkey hunting!

Jagger is a resiliant young man, deomonstrating that while he has to walk with crutches, this does not stop him. His uncle has played a lage role in his life and started taking Jagger outdoors and hunting several years ago, we get to hear how Jagger has faced these challenges, but as he says, "I don't know any different, it has always been this way for me." Embracing his norm, has given Jagger a positive attitude that is contageous.

Today is a just real talk. Jon discusses some frustration in the very public failings of Christian leaders. This seems to be a very regular occurrence in the Christian world and it simply ought not be. If you are a teacher or a leader, you are held to a higher standard by God. You sin always has fallout and affects those who you are called to lead.

I met today's guest back in September when we were both speaking at an event in Cartersville, Georgia. After hearing him speak, I knew I wanted him on the show. His name is Blake Hamby. Blake says, he has always had a passion for hunting. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for a year in 2008 as a Wildlife Management major. After that, he worked as a Wrangler, guiding people on horseback at the 320 Guest Ranch in Big Sky, Montana for a couple of years. He then returned home and began guiding deer and hog hunts in Southern Illinois and South Alabama for a while, before deciding it was time to settle down and pursue a job that provided a living wage.

After marrying his wife, they launched a small apparel line called Southern Longbeards. Together, they started and ran their local NWTF Chapter for six years. Currently, he works in Sales at Three Way Campers in Marietta, Georgia, a position he has held for nearly ten years. He and his family are also deeply involved in their small church in downtown Adairsville, Georgia. Additionally, he helps coach his sons in baseball and football.

Blake is also a successful Out of State hunter. Traveling to several states to hunt and he shares with us some of his keys to success in doing so. As we discussed, hunting out of state on your own is not difficult with some key scouting, planning and the desire to make it happen.

At age 9 our guest was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after spending more than 100 days in the hospital, he got to go home....for 1 day before returning for another 60+ days. His treatments were brutal. For years Sky fought this deadly disease....during his recovery,

Blake Lawson of Haller Back Game Calls taught Skye to build a pot call and that lead to his starting his own call business www.skyehighgamecalls.com.

Today Skye is mentoring a lot of cancer patients, and others as he teaches them about hunting turkeys and the struggles of life as a cancer patient.

Skye is 18 years old, shy and someone who leaned on his faith during his treatments and his recovery. His story is one of resiliance and a strong faith in God.
