Today, Tony and his Carl dig deep into the one that launched Image Comics, Spawn. They cover the first few issues and spend time talking about issue 300.

Created by the Toddfather himself, Todd McFarlane, Spawn follows the rebirth of a former CIA operative/trained killer who comes back to Earth only to find that making a deal with the devil doesn’t go well. Image comics graciously offers a free version of Spawn 1 online so you can read that to prepare for this excellent talk.

This week, Tony is joined by Thanos Kyratzis writer of a comic that is currently on Kickstarter called Borders.

What is Borders?

It’s impossible not to have a discussion about an issue like that. But a discussion means listening just as much as talking.

This is what Abriele Skaite (the artist) and Thanos Kyratzis (the writer) were thinking when they conceived Borders. Borders was created by two migrants and based on the words of different people from all over the world. The issue of borders is a nuanced one, with impacts on personal and social level that have become particularly important in recent years. The book contains 15 interviews on borders as a concept from people whom Abriele and Thanos are lucky to know. Then those interviews became 15 double-paged illustrations.

I Kill Giants, was written by Joe Kelly and drawn by JM Ken Niimura, is a 7 part miniseries that first appeared on July 1st, 2008. It went on to win the IGN Best indie comic of 2008, was voted one of the 10 Best Comics of 2009 by New York Magazine, a Young Adult Library Association 2010 Top Ten Great Graphic Novel for Teens, and won the Gold Award at the 5th International Manga Award I 2012.

The guys are back reviewing the second in an older Marvel trilogy - Blade (2002). Does the movie still stand up to the test of time?

Plot Summary:

A rare mutation has occurred within the vampire community. The Reaper. A vampire so consumed with an insatiable bloodlust that they prey on vampires as well as humans, transforming victims who are unlucky enough to survive into Reapers themselves. Now their quickly expanding population threatens the existence of vampires, and soon there won't be enough humans in the world to satisfy their bloodlust. Blade, Whistler and an armory expert named Scud are curiously summoned by the Shadow Council. The council reluctantly admits that they are in a dire situation and they require Blade's assistance. Blade then tenuously enters into an alliance with The Bloodpack, an elite team of vampires trained in all modes of combat to defeat the Reaper threat. Blade's team and the Bloodpack are the only line of defense which can prevent the Reaper population from wiping out the vampire and human populations.

107 – Crisis on Infinite Earths Parts 4-5

This episode we bring in the big guns Tony Farina and Max Byrne. Both friends of the show and they have far more knowledge of the DC World of Comic books and TV shows based in that world. So with that being said we are reviewing the last 2 episodes of the DC crossover event: Crisis on Infinite Earths. 

Plot Summary: 

Stuck in the Vanishing Point, the Paragons search for a way to escape. The futility of the situation is compounded by The Flash's disappearance. However, hope appears in the form of Oliver, who reveals that he has become something else. Meanwhile, the origin stories for The Monitor and Anti-Monitor are revealed.
