In honor of Veteran’s Day, we decided to bring you stories of women in the military and the challenges they face.  Dana tells us the story of the first female cadet at the Citadel, Shannon Faulkner.  Nydia tells us about the sad and senseless murder of Vanessa  Guillen. Cindy tells us about the best and worst MREs according to the people who serve our country.    

For dinner this week, Cindy cooked up a favorite MRE option of  Chili Mac. Hamburger Helper who?  For dessert, she made a military mess hall favorite, Applesauce Cake. The wine this week was Vina Zorzal Garnacha. A juicy wine with a hint of spice and well under $15.

It’s October and we wanted to get in the “spirit”; pun intended.  This week we bring you stories of haunted places.  Dana tells us about the Nahanni Valley where some visitors took in the sights while someone took off their heads. This beautiful place has a scary past that few are trying to revisit.  Nydia tells us about Aokigahara Forest, Japan’s Suicide Forest, a place so haunting, it is said to lure its visitors to their deaths. Cindy does our favorite thing, she shares a listener haunting. 

For dinner this week, Cindy made us Jack O Lantern stuffed peppers that were worth all the farts. For dessert, she delighted us with chocolate cupcakes just like the ones we used to have at the school Halloween party before the sugar free moms had kids. With Halloween right around the corner, what better way to celebrate than with stories of real life witches. We cover stories of blood thirsty women who lure and devour their prey. Dana tells us about Elizabeth Bathory, the real Countess Dracula. Did she really drain the blood of her victims to stay younger or was she railroaded by a king with an agenda? Nydia tells us about Sophia Zhukova, an 81 year old with a history of giving candied meats to children. What plans did she have for the refrigerated intestines of her victim? Cindy shares a neighborhood “Karen” story involving a dentist, a yard display, and some good old vandalism.  

For dinner this week, Cindy made us pork chops and cheesy grits topped with mushrooms in a creamy tomato sauce. For dessert, we had apple pull apart bread with caramel icing. The wine this week was Tomasello Witches brew, a sweet wine with lots of spice that is meant to be served warm and was reminiscent of a hot apple cider.

In honor of Indigenous People’s day, we decided to bring you stories on the topic. Dana tells us about the tragedy of Residential Schools in Canada. This episode was a tough one to research and record. We all joke about cults but the fact is cults ruin families and lives. This week we share stories of a couple of the worst cults in the world. Brace yourselves. Dana tells us about The Children of God cult and Ricky Rodriguez. This may be one of the first times we are on a killer’s side. Nydia tells us about The Yahweh cult led by their sadistic leader Michael Ryan. The small town of Rulo Nebraska may need a name change after you hear about the nightmare that happened here. Cindy gives us some pointers on how to spot and avoid cults and their recruiters. 

For dinner this week, Cindy made us an anniversary meal consisting of baked chicken with pancetta risotto and peas. For dessert, she surprised us with blueberry cheesecake with basil infused crust.  The wine this week was Gulp Hablo Orange, an organic wine with a blend of equal parts Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc.  This was a nice refreshing wine with a citrus taste.

Identity theft is a serious crime. It happens to the best of us. Getting your identity stolen for financial gain is one thing but when it gets stolen for murder, that’s another matter entirely. This week we focus on bizarre cases of identity theft that ended in murder.  Dana tells us the murder of Cari Farver. This case takes twists and turns that might just make you nauseous.  Nydia tells us about Lois Riess. The murdering grandma who turned into a fugitive.  Cindy gives us some pointers about how to prevent identity theft. 

For dinner this week, Cindy cooked up meals with an identity crisis. She made a burger with gouda cheese but it wasn’t your average burger it was bison. For dessert, she delighted us with some gooey chocolate brownies that were actually zucchini. The wine this week was a Mr. Blacks Little Book Shiraz. This wine was a hit with all. At under $15 it was a well balanced wine that did the job.
