This week we proudly present to you our pride episode. We curated some stories that are sure to stick to your mental ribs. Dana tells us about Harvey Milk. Maybe you’ve heard his name, but what was his connection to the gay rights movement? Dana let’s us have it.  Nydia tells us about the tragic and recent murder of a gay teen who’s story went viral on Tiktok. Jason Fox was lured and killed and his mother Pepper Fox is convinced his sexuality had something to do with it. Cindy tells us about the chefs she chose from the Tasty Pride recipe book. The recipe book has wonderful anecdotes about it’s contributors and Cindy shared some of those. 

For dinner this week, Cindy used the Tasty Pride recipe book. She used recipes made by the LGBTQ community. Cindy surprised us with a grilled peach glazed chicken with rice and bacon wrapped asparagus. For dessert, she again took from the book to prepare blueberry gooey butter bars. The meal was paired with Root 1 Sauvignon Blanc.  A Chilean white with a pale green color and citrus/tropical aromas. It was a crisp, refreshing wine.

This week we talk about influencer murders. Dana tells us about Andrew Cunanan and the assassination of an original influencer, Gianni Versace. She covers the background of the Versace family and the road that brought the two fated men’s paths to cross. Nydia tells us about the still unsolved murder of influencer Alexis Sharkey. She covers the series of events leading up to the night of her murder and also possible suspects. Cindy tells us about food influencers. As if we need convincing to eat her delicious meals. 

For dinner this week, Cindy made a pancetta and goat cheese loaded pasta (minus the pancetta) recipe from the food influencers over on Gather and Feast.  For dessert, she pulled another recipe from their archives; a creamy vanilla baked cheesecake with Cointreau whipped cream and fresh summer fruit. The meal was paired with Villa Sparina Gavi, an excellent Italian white wine from the region of Piedmont.

Poison was her murder weapon of choice. Nydia tells the insane story of Katherine Knight, one of Australia’s most bizarre murder cases ever.  This was an over the top kill if there ever was such a thing.  Cindy shares the Belle Gunness story. She’s the one that got away leaving a body count of at least 15!

For dinner this week, Cindy made a Lancashire Hotpot. A meal that’s as rich as its history. This traditional dish was flavorful and hearty. For dessert, she made a traditional Australian dessert called Lamingtons. These sponge cakes have an interesting texture that was really pleasing. The meal was paired with Carnivor Cabernet Sauvignon Bourbon Barrel. This was one of the most interesting Cabernet Sauvignons we’ve had and the unique flavor was quite an experience.

In honor of Mother’s Day, this week we decided to cover stories of moms who had no choice but to go all out momma bear style. Dana tells us about Mamie Till, Emmett Till’s mother. Her sacrifice changed the course of race relations in the United States. Nydia tells the story of Miriam Rodriguez Martinez, a Mexican mother who took on one of Mexico’s most dangerous cartels, Los Zetas, after her daughter was kidnapped by them. It’s the real life version of the movie “Taken”.  Cindy shares a delightful listener story. 

For dinner this week, Cindy made a spectacular brunch. She created the most flavorful Quiche Lorraine packed with bacon and a flakey crust. For dessert, she made a french toast casserole which she poured maple syrup over. The meal was paired with pina colada mimosas with Da Mar Prosecco.
