Early 1800s New Orleans was a different time. A major issue, especially in the southern United States then, was slavery. The concept and practice in general is despicable and inhumane, but there were those, like Madame Delphine who took it to a whole other unspeakable and horrifying level of brutality. So much so that even her slave owning peers sought and demanded justice for the slaves working in her home in the French Quarter.

You can never fully know what goes on between couples behind closed doors. The same can be said that one can never truly know every move made by their significant other when they’re not with them. How well can you ever really know someone other than yourself? Some people learn the hard way while others leave this world never knowing what hit them.

Most of us likely know at least something about this case. “The Amityville Horror” is part of American horror culture. But I wanted to dig more into the true crime part of this story, and really get into the details of the brutal murders that started this whole phenomenon. Don’t worry, though. They were what appeared to be the picture perfect all-American family living in one of the nicest areas in the southern town of Anniston, Alabama in the 1970s. But behind closed doors, all families contain secrets that they don’t show the rest of the world. Sometimes they don’t even show each other.

The United States has developed a horrific problem with school shootings over the last 20+ years. While there were earlier incidents, the one that occurred in the Spring of 1998 in a small town in Oregon is widely credited by most as the first in this epidemic that developed in the country in the decades that followed. In 2010, 22 year old UVA lacrosse player Yeardley Love was found dead in her apartment after having been brutally beaten. Just weeks away from graduation and starting her life. Her very recent ex-boyfriend was brought in for questioning almost immediately after everyone police spoke to quickly revealed a string of incidents over the weeks leading up to the crime detailing George’s violent behavior and tendencies especially towards the girl he supposedly loved.
