Imagine holding up your newborn baby for the first time and saying these words: "And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him," Luke 1:76, NIV

These were the words of Zechariah. He is speaking to his son who was just named "John" and would grow up to prepare the way for Jesus.

The words are not just for John, but a prophesy from God for the whole world to hear.Yes, this is Zechariah, the same Zechariah who stood before the Lord 9 months earlier in fear and uncertainty. The same Zechariah who was not allowed to speak during his wife's pregnancy because of his unbelief.

Zechariah changed from fearful and insecure to certain and confident.

How does that happen?

This weekend we continue our message series: "Investigating Jesus - A Walkthrough The Gospel of Luke" we will look at the change that took place in Zechariah's heart.

God changed Zechariah. It didn't happen over night. It took nine months of quiet and study and soul-searching and meditation and prayer.

God gave Zechariah time to research the promises of the Savior and the one who would prepare the way. When Zechariah was able to speak, he shared something that is worth hearing.

So bring your Bible this Sunday as we join Luke as he investigates Jesus, and see that God still gives gifts of confidence and certainty to people like Zechariah . . . and you.

What is your favorite Christmas song?

Is it "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby? "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Frank Sinatra? "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole? Or maybe it's one that's more recent?

There are probably a lot of favorites on your list , but there's one, that is probably the first to be recorded...it's called the "Magnificat" by Mary, also known as "The Song of Mary."

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior." Magnificat is Latin for the word "magnify." Mary was glorifying God as she sang this song. She and her relative Elizabeth marveled at their miraculous pregnancies and the good news about Jesus: God becoming man to save us.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church, we're continue our message series: "Investigating Jesus - A Walkthrough The Gospel of Luke" and we will see how Luke continued his historical investigative report about Jesus and how Mary and Elizabeth responded to the good news.

We can learn from these two amazing women that we can magnify God, giving him glory and honor, even when we don't fully understand what He is up to. We can learn to trust WHO even when we don't understand fully WHAT He is doing. We can rest in His promises that He is mindful of us and merciful to us.

What is the biggest issue you are facing in your life right now?

Whose Team Are You On? That's a big question if you're cheering for a team in the World Series, right? Go D-backs!

As much as we're going to enjoy watching the World Series, the question of "Whose Team Are You On?" isn't about sports, it's about Jesus, and the certainty He gives us as we look forward to our future.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church in Phoenix we're continuing our message series entitled, "Count On It." We're going to listen to another conversation Jesus had with His disciples about the end of the world and his return.

In Matthew 24, Jesus gives us some signs that Judgment Day is approaching, not to alarm us, but to make us aware. He wants us to pay attention and not be surprised by some of the pushback against God, and His people, that we will experience.

Jesus tells us these things so that we can be ready, ready to receive Him when He comes again as our victorious King who conquered sin, death, and the devil through His life, death, and resurrection.

In the meantime, Jesus gives us a powerful purpose: push forward against the darkness of evil by sharing His love with others.

It's our prayer that you can look forward with confidence to the day when Jesus reveals that we are on the winning team!

What do you love? What do you hate?

As a society, we often overuse and probably even abuse these words more often than we would like to admit. We possibly have even watered them down to a point that it is hard to even define them.

We are reminded that the grave, death, and fear and shame no longer have a hold on us because of Jesus' death and resurrection. God loves us, saves us, he bore the cross, and beat the grave- he is our King!

It seems that anytime there is terrorism, violence or potential war, special attention is given to the prophetic books of the Bible like Revelation or Ezekiel or Daniel. And that is good!

People want to know, "Is this a sign from God about what is to come? Is the political climate in Israel connected to the second coming of Jesus?"

Many individuals have mistaken beliefs about Jesus' return just like they did when he first arrived in Bethlehem. Jesus constantly reminded the crowds, his disciples and even Pontius Pilate, that his kingdom is not of this world. (John 18:36) Jesus is a king, but not like many think.

Jesus also pointed to wars and rumors of wars and famines and earthquakes and other "birth pains" as reminders that this world will not last forever and that he would return. (Matthew 24)

God wants us informed and ready. He wants us to be prepared for what is going to come.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church in Phoenix we are starting a new, timely message series entitled, "Count On It." We listen to what Jesus says about the end of the world and his return.

This week we will look at John 14. And the very first words out of Jesus' mouth when talking about the end times are. "Don't let your hearts be troubled."

We can count on the truth that God will not leave us alone. We can enjoy his presence and peace. This makes all the difference as we head into difficult times.
