Have you ever watched a baseball game where two fielders are running to make a play on the ball, and then they both stop and look at one another as the ball drops? Perhaps you feel that way with your relationship with God...not sure if God wants you to act or if He wants you to wait and pray that He does something.

The indecision can be a little frustrating, right?

This weekend at CrossWalk Church as we continue our "Directed" message series, God directs us to trust the power of Jesus. Maybe we need to look at major issues in our lives and ask the question, "Is God asking me to be full of faith or faithful?"

When we are full of faith it means that we need to trust God to control the things that we cannot. When we're called to be faithful, God has given us the tools we need to handle a situation. We need to act.

So when it comes to an issue like the forgiveness of sins, we need to be full of faith. Only Jesus can do that. But when it comes to living a life of love, we need to be faithful. God has enabled us to live for him.

We all have blind spots.

In a car, it is the area that your line of sight and rear view mirrors don't cover. It is so easy to have a motorcycle or car or even a semi sneak into one of those spots. Having a second set of eyes in the car is a tremendous help with blind spots. A second person can see areas we can't and save us from getting into an accident.

We also have blind spots in other areas of our lives. Each one of us has flaws and weaknesses that are hard, if not impossible to see in ourselves.

Having someone whom you can trust to expose these blind spots can be painful, but they can also help us from doing some serious damage to ourselves or others.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church in Phoenix as we continue our "Directed" message series we will see how God helps us see our blind spots. God uses gospel encouragement and the coaching of other brothers and sisters in Christ to help all of us keep learning and growing.

If you haven't been able to visit and experience the memorial of the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial in Hawaii, there's something about revisiting the iconic landmark, seeing the images and videos of the sinking ship that makes that tragic day come back to life.

Japan had two hopes for the bombing of Pearl Harbor:

- Cripple the US Pacific Fleet.

- Deal a blow so devastating that the US would not want to fight.

Their plan didn't work. Just one day later, President Roosevelt started his declaration of war by saying, "December 7th, 1941, a day that will live in infamy..." In an attempt to get the United States to give up, the Empire of Japan actually pushed us to find the strength to persevere.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church in Phoenix, Arizona as we continue our "Directed" message series we will see how God directs the Apostle Paul, and us, to persevere. Unfortunately, we are in a spiritual war. Satan tries to hit you with hurt and loss and pain and suffering hoping that you give up on God and quit fighting. He tried to do the same to Jesus. And what happened? On Good Friday, as Jesus was hanging on the cross, Satan thought he was winning the battle. But God won the war for your soul.

Have you ever had friends who got into an argument and you were stuck in between? Sometimes it gets messy and complicated.

Here's the good news and the bad news of trying to help people be brought together. They may reconcile. That's the good news! But you may lose the friendship in the process. That's the bad news!

Paul looked for common ground with them. He observed what they cared about. He invited a conversation and listened to them. In the process he noticed that they were very religious people, but they were looking for God in all the wrong places.

He met them where they were, but loved them too much to leave them there. He shared the good news about Jesus and the hope of the resurrection.

In one of Pastor Chris' favorite comic strips, Calvin and Hobbes, Calvin tells his dad that he's trending down 5% points in the polls. He goes on to say that although his recognition factor is high, the scandals of his administration continue to haunt him. Calvin's dad says, "Scandals? What scandals?!" Calvin replies, "Bedtimegate and Home-workgate come readily to mind." To which Calvin's dad replies, "Instances of true leadership. History will vindicate me." Calvin then is shown wondering, "I wonder what my new dad will look like."

We live in a culture that, like Calvin, views manhood in a negative light. Part of that is because men have succumbed to the temptations of being absent from their homes, or worse even toxic through verbal, emotional, sexual, or physical abuse.

That is not how God wants us to live!

God doesn't want men to buy into the lies that say we can do it ourselves, that we can just ignore what God has to say, and think that our relationships are going to benefit.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church as we continue our "Directed" message series, we will see how God directed the Berean people to be open to what the Apostle Paul said about Jesus, then examine what Paul was saying in light of the truth of God's Word, and then live with persistent purpose as a part of God's rescue plan.

Examine the truth and see for yourselves that you matter to God. Jesus rescued you. He died and rose again to forgive you and now gives you great purpose as you live for Him, and love others as He first loved you.

Have you ever heard the alert "this is a message from the Emergency Broadcast System"?

As thunderstorms start to roll in, the tones that come to alert us are a mixture of beeps and hums - sort of like the sound of dialup internet. And then the words: "this is a message from the Emergency Broadcast System" take over.

We still have the warnings today, but they are a little different. Now we tend to get them on our phones, smart watches and tablets instead of the radio. And in PHX we are warned about dust storms and flooding events - tornados aren't ever on the radar.

But without a doubt, the sounding of the emergency tones is a call to first listen and then to act.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church as we continue our "Directed" message series, we will see how God directed the Apostle Paul to make important announcements.

In some ways we could say God made Paul part of his "Spiritual Broadcast System." He was directed to warn people of coming judgement over sin. He was directed to announce forgiveness through Jesus Christ and God's plan to save all those who believe.

And when an individual is brought to faith in Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit, he is made part of that broadcast system as well.

How can you tell if someone is a true friend?

Think how hard this question must be to answer for someone who is rich and famous, like a professional athlete. They are constantly surrounded by individuals who claim to be friends, but when their money runs out, often times their "friends" run out as well.

Perhaps someone that you consider a true friend is someone who has been with you through a difficult time. This friend is reliable and dependable in tough times.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church we're continuing our "Directed" message series and in this message we'll consider the strength of our relationship - our friendship - with God. The most obvious way that we can see that Jesus is a true friend is by his cross. Jesus helped us in our greatest need by giving his life as a payment for our sin. He is a friend on whom we can rely.

And God gives us "crosses" as well. This is not a literal cross made out of wood, but pain we experience as a result of our relationship with Jesus. As we embrace this pain, our faith in him is shown to be genuine and we are given a platform on which we can share our faith with others.

Have you ever wished that God would send you a sign? The reality is that there are signs all around us that we simply don't see unless we are paying attention. Street signs, no parking signs, school zone signs, crosswalk signs, stop lights, speed limit signs, divided highway signs and merge signs, they're all pointing us on a direction to go.

This weekend at CrossWalk Church we are starting a new message series entitled, "Directed." We will start in chapter 16 in the book of Acts and see how God directed the Apostle Paul and discover how he directs us as well.

Sometime signs tell us where to go, but sometimes they tell us where not to go. WRONG WAY signs will hopefully turn us around. NO TRESPASSING signs warn us not to cross a certain boundary.

Paul quickly learned from God where NOT to go, so he could move forward where God did want him to go. The same is true for us today. God speaks to us through his Word and gives us direction.

Over the years, the answer might change and it might not. One thing is for sure. Whatever your answer is to this question reveals something: what you deeply value. And, your answer may be connected to where you're tempted to get your self worth from.

Perhaps you get your self worth from other people's opinions. The funny thing about where people can truly get their self worth from is...it's not from themselves! So, where do you get it from and how can that give you confidence for today and the future?

This weekend at CrossWalk Church in Phoenix we are concluding our message series entitled "Worth It." We will take a look at how we can see our worth through God's eyes. God tells us in His Word a lot about Himself and a lot about us and our worth.

Listen to Jesus' words about the importance of getting our sense of worth from what God says: Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4

It's also Confirmation Sunday, which means 6 young people who have spent 2 years in intense Bible study will be accepted into membership! We will celebrate this milestone at our 9am service in Laveen. What a perfect Sunday to talk about self worth as these young people join our family of believers in membership at CrossWalk and as they prepare to entire high school. What a perfect Sunday for all of us to reflect on where we get our sense of self worth and why that's so important!
