Welcome back, fellow kids.
We start off with one of our favourite celebrity stories of the year: Bennifer is back! JLo and Ben Affleck are peak Leo season as they go Instagram official. We also chat about Lil Nas X’ new single and Shawn Mendes' odd (but hilarious) TikTok.
Between floods around the world and billionaires heading to space, it’s been a rough old week in climate change news. We share our tips for dealing with climate anxiety and recommend some useful Instagram accounts. We reference this article by Sim Kern for Salon titled No, Billionaires Won’t “Escape” To Space While The World Burns.
Next up we chat about the awful anti-lockdown protests that Australian cities saw over the weekend. One infamous internet “star” was spotted rallying the crowds. We discuss Australia’s obsession with platforming harmful people and the lone wolf narrative.
Jas recommends comedy/thriller I Care A Lot while Maggie recommends the Netflix series Atypical. Maggie reads from this Time article Atypical Fell Short as Both Autistic Representation and Entertainment. At Least It Was Eclipsed During Its Own Time by Sarah Kurchak.
Katie Zhou created our fab new cover art and India Raine is our wonderful producer and composer of our jingle. Email us at [email protected], find us on Instagram @cultureclubpod, or on our personal accounts @jasmineeskye and @yemagz.
Chat to you next week, angels.
Jas and Mags xoxo

Hi friends,
Grab your tea and let’s get into it.
We start off with a chit-chat and Maggie reads from a piece she contributed to for MTV titled No Pep Talks, Please: Young Melburnians React To Their Fourth Lockdown. After that we delve into the rumours that Harry Styles is starting his own beauty brand. Do celebrities need to make cosmetics?
We then debate the news that Pamela Anderson objects to the new TV series about her infamous sex tape with Tommy Lee as well as discussing Grimes’ strange TikTok rant about AI and communism.
The Internet went into overdrive earlier in the week around the news that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt actress was a “KKK Queen”. Jasmine references this newsletter by Charlie Warzel titled The Internet Is Flat and The Mystery of St. Louis’s Veiled Prophet by Scott Beauchamp for The Atlantic while Maggie reads from How Twitter Turned Kimmy Schmidt Into a ‘KKK Queen’ by EJ Dickson for Rolling Stone.
Jasmine recommends season one of the comedy series Feel Good on Netflix and Maggie recommends the book Emotional Female by Yumiko Kadota.
India Raine is our wonderful producer and composer of our jingle. Email us at [email protected], find us on Instagram @cultureclubpod, or on our personal accounts @jasmineeskye and @yemagz.
Ta-ta for now!

Hello hello!
Today’s episode is proudly sponsored by Scarlet, a new Australian period-care brand aiming to make our cycles more sustainable and redefine the period experience. Follow them on Instagram at @wearescarlet.
Now strap in because it's a pop-culture popcorn episode this week with a handful of the latest stories. We discuss Olivia Rodrigo's debut album and Brooke Blurton being announced as the first Indigenous and bisexual Bachelorette.
Billie Porter announces he is HIV positive in an open and moving interview and Demi Lovato comes out as gender non-binary to more backlash than we've seen with other celebrities.
Maggie reads from an NBC article by Mary Emily O'Hara titled 'Demi Lovato's Non-Binary Revelation Is Important In More Ways Than One'.
We then get into a more somber segment as we give context on the tragic Israel/ Palestine conflict which came to a ceasefire late last week. We both recommend this ABC 'Behind The News' explainer on this situation if you're looking for more information as well as Al Jazeera reports.
This is because we then discuss the full-page ad run by The New York Times where an independent organisation attacked Bella and Gigi Hadid and Dua Lipa for speaking out against Israel's crimes. It was also reported on by Diet Prada here.
Running on from this, Jas recommends the VOX explainer on the Israel/ Palestine conflict this week while Maggie recommends this Sydney Morning Herald article titled 'Meet The McCallum's One Of Australia's Few Amish Families' by Melissa Fyfe.
India Raine is our wonderful producer and composer of our jingle. Email us at [email protected], find us on Instagram @cultureclubpod, or on our personal accounts @jasmineeskye and @yemagz.

Then it’s a breakdown of Ellen’s announcement that after 19 seasons, she’s taking the Ellen show off the air. Maggie reads from this Guardian article by Adrian Horton.

Hi friends,
Were you a fangirl? Do you remember getting mocked by your parents or peers for enjoying pop music while your brothers and Dad were just considered passionate for crying when their AFL team lost? Us too.
That’s why we’re so excited to chat with the creator of Fangirls the musical, Yve Blake. The joyful, energetic and thoughtful musical is all about what it’s like to be a teenage fangirl.
While the show has now (sadly) left Melbourne, we spoke to Yve about why she decided to champion teenage girls, how she wrote a musical with no training, and the importance of putting together a truly diverse cast.
We definitely recommend Yve’s Ted Talk ‘For the Love of Fangirls’ which you can watch on YouTube.
You can follow Yve herself on Instagram at @yveblake
India Raine is our wonderful producer and composer of our jingle. Email us at [email protected], find us on Instagram at @cultureclubpod, or on our personal accounts at @jasmineeskye and @yemagz.

Welcome back, pals!
Our chit-chat this week starts off with Maggie’s honest Instagram story and how actor Rami Malek reached out to ask Rachel Bilson (AKA Summer Roberts) to take down an Instagram pic.
Ah celebrities - they’re just like us.
After that, we discuss Billie Eilish’s new music video ‘Your Power’ and ask why female pop musicians reinvent themselves (what feels like) every two years.
Jasmine reads from this Guardian article by Andre Spicer and recommends Taylor Swift’s Miss Americana documentary.
Next up is a breakdown of TikTok creator and musician Peach PRC’s allegations against comedian Alex ‘Shooter’ Williamson.
This leads us into a conversation around Australia’s sexual assault legal system and why Australia didn’t have as big of a #MeToo movement as the US. Jasmine references this ABC report and this BBC article.
Jas recommends the podcast Why Are We So Obsessed With Productivity? by Educated Messes: Mental Health, Relationships, Work & Well-Being while Maggie recommends the book Small Beauty by Jiaqing Wilson Yang.
In a Culture Club first, we BOTH recommend Fangirls Musical a musical created by Yve Blake and directed by Paige Rattray. Maggie references Yve’s Ted Talk. If you’re in Melbourne get tickets here before May 9!
That’s all, folks.
