Hello dear friends,
We start today off with a very casual chat about the books we’re reading. Jasmine is currently devouring Kokomo by Victoria Hannan and Maggie is gobbling up Dolly Alderton’s Ghosts.
From November 13–18, it was Trans Awareness Week. Maggie attended a great talk with Minus 18 and Zoe Terakes and we also found this post on trans terminology super helpful.
We then dive into Sia’s newly released trailer for her film Music. We look at why this has caused the autistic community so much hurt, as we draw from Twitter’s hashtags #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs and #ActuallyAutistic. This post by @neurodifferent was really insightful for breaking down ableist euphemisms.
Jasmine recommends season four of The Crown and fawns over Princess Di’s outfits and you can see even more of her iconic looks in this article by Daisy Murray for Elle UK. Maggie recommends “'Intimate terrorism': why the murders of Hannah, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey must spark change” by Madonna King for The Age. A trigger warning for this one as it deals with issues of abuse and domestic violence.
Please reach out to Lifeline, Safe Steps, Sexual Assault Crisis Line, 1800 My Options or 1800Respect if you or a loved one needs support.
Our jingle, editing and production is by India Raine. You can email us at [email protected], find us on Instagram at @cultureclubpod, or on our personal accounts at @jasmineeskye and @yemagz.

A reboot of the beloved Gossip Girl has been confirmed to hit our screens next year. We take a look at all the backlash it’s received, as well as what we’re excited for. Jas points to Fashionista’s editor-in-chief Tyler McCall’s Instagram @eiffeltyler for the lowdown on Serena and Blair’s outfits.
Harry Styles became the first solo man to grace Vogue America’s cover. But should he be praised for bending fashion’s gender norms? We read from Alok Vaid-Menon’s insightful take.
Jasmine recommends ‘Celebrities Who Never Endorsed Biden-Harris Seem Too Comfortable Claiming Their Victor’ by Karenna Meredith for Pop Sugar, a piece critiquing silent celebrity Biden-Harris supporters. Maggie recommends two Netflix shows: Dash and Lily, a teen Christmas rom-com based off the book by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn, and Aunty Donna's Big Ol' House of Fun, a sketch comedy show.
This week’s episode is sponsored by the lovely folk over at @junk.studios Lauren and Adam run this Melbourne label which creates size inclusive pieces made from remnant and organic fabrics. We love to see it!

We love Billie Eilish (sorry for the clickbait title), but conversations around her paparazzi shots have gotten out of hand. We read from this Buzzfeed article by Scaachi Koul about it. Oh, and little Timmy Chalamet responded to those kissing photos with Lily-Rose Depp.
You might have seen the UK ads about creative industries floating around after UK chancellor Rishi Sunaks' comments about how creatives should retrain. Though the ads have now been fact checked, Tristan Cross wrote an op-ed for Dazed on why culture and the arts are so important.
Danielle Bernstein aka We Wore What has come under fire for suing The Great Eros after they sent her a cease and desist notice. Diet Prada covered the drama and The Fashion Law provided us with a legal viewpoint.

Hi sweet listeners!
On this week’s episode we’re chatting about EmRata’s viral essay on consent and exploitation, the Netflix documentary sparking a conversation around social media and the double standards of nude pics.
Emily Ratajkowski (which we know we pronounced incorrectly… oops) penned a personal essay for New York Magazine titled “Buying Myself Back: When Does A Model Own Her Own Image?”.
This led to our conversation about the rise of revenge porn during COVID in the UK and Australia. A certain male celebrity named Chris (Pine? Hemsworth? Evans?) accidentally posted his own dick pic on Instagram. The flood of support revealed the toxic double standards that still pervades celebrity culture and nudity.
Jasmine recommends Sarah Wilson’s article for The Guardian titled, ‘The wellness realm has fallen into conspiritualism – I have a sense why’. Maggie recommends the 2019 Australian romantic comedy Top End Wedding as well as Vogue’s short film ‘I Love New York: Bella Hadid, Misty Copeland & Whoopi Goldberg Celebrate the City’.
As always, our jingle, editing and production is by India Raine. You can email us at [email protected], find us on Instagram at @cultureclubpod, or on our personal accounts at @jasmineeskye and @yemagz.
Until next week,
