  • Giving Up Something For Lent? Here's Why Sunday Might Not Count
It's that time of the year when millions of people around the world give up things like chocolate, sweets and smoking for Lent.
But for TodayFM listener Laura in Leitrim, the most surprising thing this year is that Lent is actually longer than you'd think. We all know that it's 40 days and 40 nights but Laura has discovered that it's actually 46 days, and Sunday's do not count.
Laura also revealed that her Lenten sacrifice of giving up chocolate is still ongoing, eight years later!
To clear things up, we were joined by Ireland's soundest Priest, Fr Chris O'Donnell who also told Dermot and Dave how they're doing things differently this Ash Wednesday.

  • Why Positive Vibes Aren't Always Good: Understanding Toxic Positivity
During the past couple of months, we've all said things like 'sure it could be worse' or 'We're lucky really, I know someone who is going through way worse than I am' or 'positive vibes only', but is positivity all it's cracked up to be.
Yes, positivity is good and it's important now as we live through this weird time, but if you're using it to paper over how you (or someone you know) are really feeling, it becomes something that is known as toxic positivity.
Toxic positivity takes looking at the bright side to the extreme, pushing ourselves or others out of feeling things that are real and that are valid.
In a Mind Yourself Now special, psychologist Louize Carroll explains what exactly toxic positivity is, when it becomes a problem and how you can avoid it.
