  • 'There Isn't An Expiry Date': Irish Doctor Explains All About Embryo Freezing
There was a little girl born in the United States recently who had already broken a world record. Molly Gibson, born to parents Tina and Ben, came into the world 27 years after the embryo she came from was originally frozen.
Molly joins her big sister Emma, who previously held the record for the longest-frozen embryo to have resulted in a birth.
The process of embryo freezing and donating of embryos is something that does happen in Ireland and Dr Tim Dineen from Waterstone Clinic joined Dermot and Dave to explain the process, who can benefit from it and if an embryo found in a wooly mammoth could be viable.

  • Galway Woman Arranges 10,000 Gifts For Nursing Home Residents Around Ireland
The power of social media! When Geraldine Monaghan put up a Facebook status looking for some pals to help her send Christmas presents to nursing home residents in her local area, she never could have imagined that it would result in people around the world getting involved, and 10,000 people in 29 counties getting special Christmas gifts.
After being inundated with requests to help out after her original plea, Geraldine set up carepack.ie which matches generous people with nursing homes in pretty much every county in Ireland. All you have to do is log on, request a name and you'll be sent all the info directly. Plus, thanks to An Post, sending letters and packages up to 2kg is free until January 31st, so you don't even need to worry about postage!
Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Geraldine revealed the incredible response they've had from the nursing homes involved and the difference this small act has made to the lives of thousands.

  • How To Stay Healthy, And Enjoy Yourself, Over Christmas: Your Personal Best Week 6
As we near the end of Your Personal Best with Sport Ireland and Dermot and Dave, it's important to recognise the challenges that'll crop up for our four leaders and for anyone who has been following along with the plan.
Christmas is a tricky time of the year from the endless (Zoom) parties, to the chocolates that seem to pile up in the house. If you've been making a change in terms of your nutrition or fitness, any massive change in your environment has the potential to throw your plan off course and set you back.
But there is a way of enjoying all the goodies, without setting yourself back.
Your Personal Best fitness expert Paul Opperman joined Dermot and Dave with some top tips for our four leaders, and people at home.
    Paul's Tips:
The first thing to accept is that you will be eating more calories over Christmas.
Choose wisely while enjoying yourself. Skip a course - hydrate between drinks - choose lighter options.
Calorie intake remains very high for 24 hours after a night out - hangover cravings - be aware!
Letting yourself lose one of the two is bad, dropping healthy eating and exercise is disastrous.
    But remember, balance is key.
How do you keep going? Have a few anchors during the week-a Zoom class, meet with a friend etc.
And as Paul told the lads, he'll be tucking into the chocolate instead of going for a run on Christmas Day, so make sure to enjoy yourself too!
