  • Top Online Shop Vow To Look Into 'Unacceptable' Working Conditions
Online fashion retailer, Boohoo has promised to investigate how its clothes have come to be made at a Leicester factory where conditions were ‘totally unacceptable' and 'fell woefully short of any standards acceptable in any workplace’.
A report in this weekend's Sunday Times found that staff in the factory in Leicester were being paid as little as £3.50 per hour for working in the factory and were not given face masks to prevent against Covid-19.
Boohoo, which also owns brands such as Pretty Little Thing and Nasty Gal have promised to end relationships with any suppliers who fell short of its code of conduct.
But questions remain over what this means for the fast fashion industry and what can be taken from this.
Speaking to Dermot and Dave on Today FM, Annie Kelly, journalist with The Guardian and editor of The Guardian’s Modern-Day Slavery in Focus series spoke about the report and her hopes that this will change the way we think about what's in our shopping basket.

  • How Donald Trump Tried To Cheat Against The World's Top Golfers
There's no doubting that US President Donald Trump loves to golf. His self-named organisation owns or runs nearly 20 golf courses around the world, including one in Doonbeg and it's been reported this week that since he came President in January 2017, he has played around 274 games of golf.
Not bad for a man with a particularly busy job.
In fairness to the US President, he has been described as being pretty good at golf, in fact, American sportswriter Rick Reilly says he could be one of the best golfing presidents in recent history.
However, in his new book Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump, Rick Reilly also reveals that Donald Trump is a bit of a cheater on the course.
Speaking to Dermot and Dave this morning, Rick spoke about his encounters with Trump on the course, how he can see parallels between the US Presidents golf style to his role in the Oval Office and how Trump once tried to cheat against Tiger Woods.

  • How You Can Manage Your Online Relationships And Be Less Stressed
Do you find your heart sinking when you see you've been added to yet another WhatsApp group? Or maybe you are sick to the teeth of Zoom calls? It's easy to let our digital interactions overwhelm us, and this morning on Mind Yourself Now on Dermot and Dave, Carrie Budds from Quokka Wellness had some tips on how you can manage your online life.
These days, we might have as many as 700 connections on social media, whether they're friends, family or people we follow for fun or dog videos.
This is well above the widely accepted Dunbar number, which suggests that the number of relationships that a human can comfortably maintain is 150.
And this is has only gotten worse with the increase in emails, WhatsApp group calls and Zoom calls for work during lockdown as well as the constant news setting off alerts on our smart phones.
Carrie explained to Dermot and Dave on Mind Yourself Now how you can manage the increase in your digital interactions and it's as simple as 'Have to Have', 'Nice to Have' and 'Habit to Have'.

  • Meet Ireland’s First ‘Vibe Manager’
What on Earth is a vibe manager? That’s the first question put to Joe Balance on this week’s Ask Me Anything with Dermot and Dave.
Joe is Ireland’s first ever vibe manger and his job is to support Dublin’s brand new Hard Rock Hotel in everything to do with music and culture.
Joe's role is to make sure that music is at the heart of everything that happens at Hard Rock Hotel Dublin.
So if you want a Fender from the in-house guitar collection Joe will bring that to you with an amp and headphones. If you want to listen to some vinyl, Joe will bring you a player and a selection of vinyl based on your musical taste. If you tell the reservations team who your favourite artists, genres etc are when booking then Joe will have a playlist waiting on your in-room system, playing as you walk through the door of your room.
He's also in charge of showing guests around the incredible music memorabilia collection at the hotel showing them pieces from David Bowie, Phil Lynott, Van Morrison, Kurt Cobain and a whole lot more.
He spilled the beans to Dermot and Dave this morning and you can listen back below!

  • Our Dermot Stars In Ireland’s First Socially Distant TV Show
As lockdown kicked in and TV series around the world halted production, it looked like it would be a long time before we’d see any new comedy on our screens.
But this Sunday on RTE One at 10:35, the first Irish comedy about the lockdown, made during lockdown will be on our screens, and our Dermot is starring in it!
The brainchild of James Cotter, Socially Distant is completely self-shot by the actors and uses video messages, group chats and all of those things that we’ve all come to know and love.
Socially Distant tells the story of a dysfunctional family trying to arrange a surprise birthday party during the onset of the coronavirus crisis.
Our Dermot plays Dave (we know, we know) and also stars Oliver Callan, Mary McEvoy, Eric Lalor, Bernard Casey, Camille Lucy Ross and Karen Kelly.
The show was made in April, at the height of lockdown and in an incredibly challenging environment with the actors having to become all-in-one cinematographers, sound-ops and stylists all while working with people they might not have even met before.
Writer and director James Cotter and star Dermot Whelan joined & Dave this morning to chat about bags of props being stolen and directing from the toilet!
