  • The Secret To Becoming A Calmer Parent
Award-winning Parent Coach Aoife Lee reveals how to be the calm in the storm
As any parent will tell you, the whole art of parenting can be quite stressful and very testing on one's patience. This often results in anger - an emotion that doesn't need to be present.
Aoife is a mother-of-three, an accredited parent and life coach and is founder of Parent Support. She works with many corporate companies around Ireland, delivering parenting wellness talks to their teams.
Speaking on Dermot and Dave's #MindYourselfNow , Lee says; "the big stuff that impacts our lives as adults, has just as much of an affect on our kids; the difference is that that adult is able to make that connection between how they're feeling to what has happened"
at the end of the day, the kids need us to be in control
She continues by expanding on these tips:
Stay one step ahead of your child's behaviour - try to understand your child's point of view
Remove yourself from the argument - not the child
Naming their feelings - validity can often diffuse a situation
You can check out Aoife's Parent Support page here, and her Instagram here.

  • Pat Shortt Was Sent Poo In The Post After THAT Kilkenny Video
    I sh*t you not!
Back in August, Pat Shortt released this creative little video ahead of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final:
The poop-scooping banter went viral, with most viewers getting a great laugh out of it. But not everyone saw the funny side.
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, Shortt admits; "I didn't pick up anything at all with it (the Kilkenny jersey), contrary to a lot of abuse we got around the office".
He then shocked us all by telling us that "letters of the same sentiment" were sent to him; "it's debatable whether it was dog poo or not", he chuckles - but it belonged to something or someone.
Pat also chats to the lads about his hugely popular Live Show Hey!:
And teases us with news of some secretive upcoming ventures, "I've a few projects on the boil for next year".
D'Unbelievable as always from the Tipperary ledge. We can't wait to see what he has in store.

  • Why It's So Important To Recognise The Physical Symptoms Of Anxiety
It's more than just a mental state of mind
No matter how strong a person is, we all experience varying strains of anxiety in our lives. It's an uncomfortable sensation that in more serious cases can be extremely debilitating.
It usually manifests when a person has too much going on at the one time. The mind becomes muddled causing worry and unease - emotions that can also become physically evident.
    Speaking on Dermot and Dave's Mind Yourself Now, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist Fiona Brennan explains this connection and how to recognise it;
what we've to remember is just how this works on a neurobiological level and when we know that we're in such a strong position
Fiona says this is "an evolutionary part of human beings and our bodies may react in a way we don't understand".
    Warning signs include:
    Tightness in the chest
    Struggling to breathe
    Sweating
    Blushing
    Headaches/Dizziness
    Muscle tension
    Digestive issues
    Insomnia
She continues by explaining how Dr. Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory has revealed a "calmness lever" that people can activate to relieve these pressures. It's all to do with the vagus nerve and our gut feelings.

Oliver Dingley takes on Dermot and Dave's #AskMeAnything
Back in 2016, Ollie Dingley became the first Irish diver to compete at the Olympics in 68 years. He came 8th in Rio and is hoping that he can bring home a medal from Tokyo next year.

    — Oliver Dingley (@OliverDingley) November 12, 2019
Not only is the 27-year-old a supreme athlete, he's also a great laugh, as we found out on Dermot and Dave.
Dingley was in the hot seat for #AskMeAnything and was well up for the challenge.
    The lads discuss the intensity of his training, what it's like prancing about in those budgie smugglers and the lengths he has to go to keep in shape;
coz I need to be quite heavy to move down the springboard, I get to eat as much as I want
It sounds like my kinda sport!
It doesn't always go to plan though:
Here is the video @OliverDingley was talking to @DermotTodayFM and @DaveTodayFM about.
His bellyflop from a competition last year.
    OUCH!‍♂#DermotAndDave #AskMeAnything pic.twitter.com/3qPTWHUQri
    — Today FM (@TodayFM) November 15, 2019
Personally, I think that belly flop was perfection. I'd give it a 10 ahead of any dive.
We're behind you all the way Ollie!

  • Meet The Irish Barbers Giving Life-Changing Haircuts
Fat Tony's launch their #BarbersWhoCare campaign to help men's mental health
There's a lot to be said for a good barber. Whether you're looking for a sick fade, beard trim or a zero all over, it's very comforting to know you are in safe hands.
But it's not just about the hair; a barbershop is also a place you get to have a relaxed one-to-one chat with someone who often becomes a confidant over time.
Now, a barbers in the West of Ireland wants to expand their service in order to help men's mental health.
John Maguire is the director of Fat Tony's, who have have shops in eight locations in counties Galway and Clare and offer a complete barbering and male grooming service.
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, John explains what their initiative involves and urges other barbers to get on board.
They've teamed up with Pieta House to learn more about mental health, equipping themselves with the tools to help their customers.
    John says;
we're not a counselling service but we're giving people the option of an ear, someone to speak to and we've started this Barbers Who Care initiative trying to raise awareness
This is also a message from the team:
'Next time you visit (any barbershop in the world) and you feel you had a good old fashioned chat that made you feel good, do please try and make the effort to share that barbers efforts by simply using the HASHTAG #barberswhocare with any pic you took in their establishment, to spread the word! We’re always here, we’re always everywhere'
Remember - it's good to talk and a problem shared IS a problem halved.

  • Twitter Spits Out Some Incredible Facts
Like did you know that a sea cucumber's butthole has teeth?
That's possibly one of the strangest sentences I've ever written and you've ever read. Agreed? Well that's the beauty of social media - anything is possible.
    Thanks to this tweet...
Please share a fact you are excited to know. https://t.co/vSc1kFtnKI
    — Ariel Dumas (@ArielDumas) November 13, 2019
...Dave Moore dedicated today's Dave's World to the weird and wonderful facts offered up.
But this has to be the weirdest of them all:
There is a species of fish that lives in the buttholes of sea cucumbers.
The sea cucumbers buttholes developed teeth in an attempt to keep them out.
    It did not work.
