  • Does Boris Now Have The Upper Hand In The Battle For Brexit?
    It's all about Prorogation
Just when we thought the British Prime Minister couldn't outdo his brazen self, he announces what most people are calling his craziest decision to date. But it's far from lunacy in his eyes.
Boris wants to prorogue his parliament (i.e. suspend it) in an attempt to stop MPs blocking his beloved UK no-deal Brexit vote.
This break would prevent the government from implementing new laws, and with nothing changed, the UK would leave automatically. Music to the PM's ears.
Journalist Gráinne Ní Aodha, of thejournal.ie chats to Dermot and Dave about the manoeuvre and explains why the Queen has a lot to answer for.

  • You Won't Believe How Much It Costs To Charge Your Smartphone Each Year
    What's your guess?
Smartphones really have become an extension of our hands, with the average person spending over four hours a day on their device.
With so much use, they need to be charged daily/nightly, but how much does that cost?
It's something I've often thought about but was too busy scrolling aimlessly through my phone to find out.
Thankfully, Dave's World has the answer.
Dave Moore today revealed that an American company's research has discovered it costs a whopping.........$0.91 annually. Yup, a measly 91 cent (US) - or 82 cent in Euro.
Our trivia champ also tells us why this website haveibeenpwned.com can alert you to hackers and has the science behind the pain paper cuts cause.

  • Norma Sheahan Shines In 'Angela's Ashes, The Musical'
After a record-breaking run in 2017, Angela's Ashes, The Musical is back for a limited run this summer.
The musical is based on Frank McCourt's 1996 memoir, which is one of Limerick's best known stories.
In what is a stellar cast, comedic actor Norma Sheahan plays money-lender Mrs Finucane, who has some of the funniest lines from the script.
You'll know Norma from her appearances in the likes of Moone Boy, Bridget & Eamon and Can't Cope, Won't Cope.
The Cork native chats to Dermot and Dave about the adaptation and how it's so much more colourful than the original tale.
They wouldn't have me in it if there wasn't a bit of humour in it

    Up Limerick!!
What a moment it was in the dome for Dr Sinéad Flanagan last night as she was crowned the 2019 Rose of Tralee.
And although she was the bookies favourite at odds of 7/4, her reaction showed just how unexpected the result was:

Dermot and Dave gave the locum junior doctor a call to see if the achievement had sunk in yet and learn what's next for the Limerick lady.
The soon to be 28-year-old (her birthday is this Thursday) chats about how she had planned to do "some flexible work" and "hopefully a bit of travel, a couple of months here and there" prior to her win. Well Sinéad, the world sure is your oyster now.
That €25,000 World Travel prize will go a loooong we we have a feeling.

  • This New App Is Dublin's Ultimate Events Guide
    'fishook' knows what's happening!
Like all the great cities out there, Dublin is a hive of activity with hundreds of gigs and events happening weekly. The thing is with so much on it's hard to keep track of it all.
We're always looking for fun stuff to do around the capital and now, thanks to a resourceful Tipperary man, our quest has been made so much easier.
Paddy O'Rourke has created fishook, the "tinder for events" as he calls it, an app that was inspired by a Dry November in 2017.
Chatting on Dermot and Dave, Paddy explains how he and his friends took a break from the beer ahead of a heavy Christmas party season and needed another outlet, "we wanted to distract ourselves with stuff to do around Dublin".
It's used by those who love going to gigs, exhibitions, talks, meetups, classes… you name it. It is an exclusive platform for you to shout about your events to an interested crowd.
The qualified physio started do some research and found all kinds of cool stuff happening - smaller gigs and festivals that weren't well advertised. This was his "Eureka" moment and things snowballed from there.
He chats to the lads about what sets fishook apart from other 'What's On?' platforms,
anybody that runs events or activities or festivals they can create their own account like any social media and pop up their own events
Although it's still early stages, there's so much potential for this app and we can definitely see it going nationwide in the not-so-distant future.
It's available on Android and iOS and if you're looking for your business/event to get some coverage, hit him up here.
