The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got up bright and early to offer their final reflections on the Oregon win, whether or not Washington will suffer some sort of emotional hangover from it and how last year's loss at Arizona State should be plenty of motivation to keep them focused. They also talk about the turmoil at Arizona State that ended up with letting Herm Edwards go and hiring Kenny Dillingham, and also how the Sun Devils' current struggles have as much to do with massive roster turnover, key injuries at quarterback and along the offensive line than anything else.
Tonight's game will also feature the 2023 UW Hall of Fame inductees, including football players Steve Pelleur and Cody Pickett. The guys talk a little about that, as well as the potential injury concerns the Huskies have going into the game as they break down what they expect to see tonight on both sides of the ball.
After a break to pay some bills, the guys come back and get into the #Penix4Heisman talk, and Scott comes through with a big recruiting update based on what happened during the Oregon weekend.
To finish out the pregame show, it's some final thoughts on the game as the Huskies attempt to go to 7-0 on the season.
Jack McCauley and Luke Mounger break down their keys on both sides of the ball when looking at Washington's weekend opponent, as well as Pick the Pac and Confidence Interval for Saturday night's game at Husky Stadium.
Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds spoke this week with SunDevilSource's Chris Karpman to get a feel for what Washington will see Saturday night when they host the Arizona State Sun Devils at Husky Stadium.
It's the end of an era, as well as an end of the series between Arizona State and Washington, and it's a series the Huskies aren't going to be sad to see the back of. Overall, the Sun Devils lead UW 21-17, including 13 of the last 15 games.
So what cities is Chris now curious about going to, as Arizona State is set to join the Big-12 Conference with Arizona, Utah, and Colorado? And what cities will he miss when it comes to the Pac-12: Eugene, Corvallis, or Pullman?
And with all the recent development at Arizona State, specifically around the football program and the turmoil with the on-field product, a coaching change and NCAA investigation, how does ASU AD Ray Anderson still have a job? And who is to blame?
Next, Karpman goes in-depth on the hire of new head coach Kenny Dillingham and what made him the right man at the right time, especially given the current ASU administration, led by President Michael Crow.
On to the game, Karpman talks about how different this year's ASU team is compared to last year's with so many new names that came to Tempe via the transfer portal. He talked about the strengths of the team, as well as where they are struggling, starting with their offensive line. Their OL has been decimated with injuries.
Defensively, ASU now has a new DC in former Washington State DC Brian Ward. Washington fans should remember Ward from last year; the Huskies scored 51 points on the Cougars in the 2022 Apple Cup.
How much will revenge play into this game, considering UW lost to the Sun Devils last year? Or will it factor at all? Karpman offers up his impressions of what he's seen so far from Washington and how he thinks ASU stacks up with this year's version of the Huskies. And can they cover a pretty sizable line (UW -27.5)?
Going forward, what's the outlook for the Sun Devils for the rest of the season and heading to the Big-12 in 2024? Karpman gives his take on how fans have been handling things so far with a move to a new conference on the horizon, including how successful they've been implementing NIL collectives to keep up with the Joneses.
And finally, Kim couldn't help but ask Chris a basketball question and his take on their program and ASU Men's Basketball Coach Bobby Hurley.
Inoke Breckterfield, Scott Huff, Chuck Morrell and JaMarcus Shephard spoke to the media this week about the Oregon game as well as looking ahead to playing Arizona State this weekend
Dawgman.com's wanted to put something out that recapped all the news that has come out not just in the wake of Washington's 36-33 win over Oregon this past weekend, but the continued national reaction to the win, and what it could mean for the Huskies going forward - especially for quarterback Michael Penix Jr. And there's also some clarification on the current status of transfer EDGE player Zach Durfee.
There was also a number of other things that were newsworthy so far this week. The Huskies are unveiling a new uniform and helmet combination for their game against Arizona State this weekend. This week was also the unveiling of something completely different, yet still rooted in UW Athletics; the movie trailer for The Boys in the Boat, directed by George Clooney. Following the trail of the 1936 UW Rowing team that ended up winning gold at the Berlin Olympics was captured in a best-selling book by Daniel James Brown and adapted to the big screen.
There's also a quick discussion about recruiting and the impact the Huskies could have as they finish out their 2024 recruiting class and begin really dialing in on their top targets for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. We'll have a much more in-depth podcast with Scott Eklund that will break down the weekend and the specific targets Washington fans should be paying attention to moving forward.
Washington receiver Rome Odunze, receiver Giles Jackson, tight end Jack Westover, linebacker Drew Fowler, and DB Mishael Powell spoke to the media this week about the Huskies' win over No. 8 Oregon, as well as talk about their next opponent, the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Washington co-Defensive Coordinator William Inge, Offensive Coordinator Ryan Grubb, and Head Coach Kalen DeBoer all spoke to the media Monday to field questions about what they saw on the Oregon game film and in-game decisions, as well as what they expect from the Huskies' next opponent, the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Washington Head Coach Kalen DeBoer, Quarterback Michael Penix Jr., Receiver Rome Odunze, Right Tackle Roger Rosengarten, and Cornerback Jabbar Muhammad talk to the media after their come-from-behind 36-33 win Saturday over No. 8 Oregon at Husky Stadium.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - hash out all their thoughts, and there were a LOT of them, after Washington's 36-33 come-from-behind win over No. 8 Oregon Saturday at Husky Stadium.
To start, what an atmosphere! From ESPN's Gameday appearance in Red Square, to the litany of recruits, celebrities, and former Washington players lining the sidelines pregame, the whole environment was a beautiful spectacle, the best of what Washington is all about.
And the noise! The UW fans in attendance, led by a student section in their seats well over an hour in advance, were loud and proud all game long, from the first series to the final kick.
The guys talk about the opening of the game where it seemed like both high-powered offenses would be stifled a bit by the energy and relentless play of the other teams' defenses. But then the offenses got on track and by halftime it was 22-18 in favor of the home team.
What to make of Oregon Head Coach Dan Lanning's decisions to go for it on fourth down twice inside Washington's 10-yard line - once at the end of the first half and the second during the third quarter? Lanning wasn't the only one to go riverboat gambling; Washington Head Coach Kalen DeBoer rolled the dice on his Huskies in the middle of the fourth quarter, only to come up snake eyes inside the Oregon 2-yard line.
The guys also talked about the day for both Washington Quarterback Michael Penix Jr and Oregon Quarterback Bo Nix. Both did themselves a ton of credit in the Heisman Trophy race. Penix gutted it out big-time in the fourth quarter, going to the injury tent only to come out and lead the Huskies to two drives - one that eventually gave Washington the lead with 98 seconds left to play.
They wrap up the review with their final thoughts on the day, where it stands among the list of top games ever played at Washington, and where the Huskies could see themselves ranked Sunday morning.
They also talk about the person who should be the happiest one in the Washington Football offices right now, and here's a hint: it's not Kalen DeBoer and it's not Michael Penix Jr.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - bypassed ESPN College Gameday to record their own pregame show ahead of the titanic 'PURPLE OUT' matchup between No. 8 Oregon and No. 7 Washington. So if UW fans just want to have something to listen to instead of the occasional talk about the Ducks and Huskies on ESPN, you can listen to us preview the game!
But to start, Chris and Scott recap their thoughts on Tuesday's press conference introducing new Washington Athletic Director Troy Dannen, who comes to Montlake from Tulane. Then talk moves to Gameday and the first matchup: Oregon's offense, led by quarterback Bo Nix, versus Washington's defense. Washington's biggest nemesis here might not necessarily be their opponent but the penalties that have plagued them since the start of the season. And in a game expected to be a tight one - essentially a pick 'em game by the oddsmakers - eliminating penalties is essential.
After a quick break, the guys then turn the tables and talk about what they think Oregon might do on their defensive side of the ball to take away UW Quarterback Michael Penix Jr and the Huskies' potent pass offense, currently ranked No. 1 in the country for production.
And then there's the coaching. Will the matchup between UO Head Coach Dan Lanning and UW Head Coach Kalen DeBoer become an intangible to watch like the anticipated crowd noise inside Husky Stadium? We'll have to watch for it.
Scott then went down a good chunk of the list of expected prospects from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes that will be at the game as guests of the Huskies. As far as regular season games go, this might be the biggest one in recent memory as far as top, top recruiting targets coming on their dime to see UW play. There's over 50 right now we know of, and more could be coming. And could there be any verbal commitments that drop Washington's way as a result of time spent on Montlake this weekend?
To wrap things up, the guys give their final thoughts on the game and Kim recaps his time this week in Las Vegas during the Pac-12 Basketball media days for the women and men, including his conversations with Tina Langley, Mike Hopkins, Keion Brooks, and Sahvir Wheeler.
