  • Alcoholism in Japan: An Interview with Taka from AA
In this episode, we've done something different. Rather than interviewing someone in English, I’ve put my weak and rusty N2 Japanese skills to the test and interviewed Taka, a young Japanese man who has struggled with alcoholism. Recently, Taka celebrated his first AA “birthday” and is a now year sober. Well done, Taka!If you would like to skip over the English intro and get straight to the interview with Taka, you can skip ahead to the 19 minute mark. In either event, you'll have to excuse my poor, broken Japanese. The Deep in Japan Podcast is completely independent, ad-free, and 100% crowd-funded. • The Whiskey Chronicles: Part I (Steve Edwards)
Digging through the vault, I found this three-year-old recording in which Steve Edwards and I sipped whiskey and swapped stories - among them some of Steve’s wild misadventures on the Harley. I do hope you enjoy it.This show is completely independent and listener-supported. Want to show your support and make a pledge? Navigate to the following link and become a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=3864210Face Check: At one point I quote there being 30,000 traffic fatalities a year in America. I wasn't that far under the mark. In 2016, when this was recorded, 37,461 people were killed in 34,436 motor vehicle crashes, an average of 102 per day, or 12.4 per 100,000 people per year. Japan, on the other hand, only had 4.1 traffic fatalities per 100,000 persons per year, meaning that America has more than triple the fatalities Japan does on average. In 2018, the number of traffic deaths in the US reached an estimated 40,000. Be safe on the highways out there, people!
