Hebrews 2:14-18.

So far, the Author has convincingly argued that Jesus is better than the angels––not only as the perfect Son of God, but also as the perfect Son of Man. But buried in this argument we also catch a glimpse of the something the Author will periodically do throughout his letter––namely, as he elevates Jesus, he pulls back the curtain to reveal the loving heart of Jesus for His own. And what is the heart of Jesus like? We learn that it is a heart that is condescending and compassionate toward His own.

Hebrews 2:5-18.

So far the Author has taught us that Jesus is the Son of God, and as the Son of God He is better than the angels. But not only is this true, He is also greater than the angels as the Son of Man. Jesus is the ultimate human, the perfect human. He is the Son of Man who suffered death so that we might be saved.

Hebrews 1:1-4.

Writing a word of encouragement and clear warning, the Author of Hebrews calls his audience to know and trust that Jesus is better than anything this world can offer. These professing Christians needed to be reminded of this as they were in danger of giving up because times were hard as persecution increased and suffering was a present reality. So to spur them on to not shrink back from their confession of faith in Jesus, the Author writes this brief word of exhortation we know as Hebrews. This is a practical book of the Bible because we need this same encouragement and warning as well.

Colossians 4:2-6.

As disciples no area of our lives is out bounds when it comes to confessing Him. Because of who we are in Christ, everyday disciples can intentionally confess Jesus as they reflect their gospel-shaped identities of Worshipper, Family, Servant, and Follower. But we also have one last gospel-shaped identity that cannot be ignored, and that’s the identity of a Witness. A witness is someone who proclaims the gospel of Jesus Christ with their words in everyday life.

Luke 14:25-33.

Who am I in Christ? Once saved by grace through faith in Jesus, we are now disciples of Jesus. Everyday disciples called to confess Jesus in everyday life. The old has passed away, the new has come, and now I am no longer who I once was. So who am I now in Christ? Not only are we now Worshippers in a Family as Servants of all, but we are also Followers of Jesus. And a follower is someone who abides in Jesus by spending time in Word and Prayer and then walking in obedience to Him.

John 13: 1-17.

Once a sinner is saved by grace they have new key gospel-shaped identities. And now as a disciple of Jesus this person is a true WORSHIPPER that’s been adopted into a Jesus FAMILY called to SERVE one another. We turn to the chapter that most clearly displays who Jesus is as the Servant Savior and there we learn that a servant has been created, saved, and called to serve, and their service is all about the gospel.

John 3:14-18.

We celebrate the resurrection of King Jesus from the dead by focusing our attention on one of the most famous verses in all the Bible–John 3:16. From this verse we learn that whoever believes in the resurrected Son of God has eternal life. On Friday, the Son of God was dead, BUT Sunday has come! The grave has been robbed. Sin has been defeated. And now whoever believes in the resurrected Son of God can have eternal life!

Daniel 9:1-19.

Heading into 30 Days of Prayer we turn to the book of Daniel to learn how the promises of God are the fuel of prayer. Chapter nine is a special glimpse into the devotion life of Daniel and as we peak over his shoulder--reading his bible and praying to the Lord--we learn something about prayer.
