The lovely and talented Alison Lewis from Alison Lewis Interiors joins us again today to talk about the pros and cons of the architect and interior designer combination. 

 

Different projects are more suited to different types of designers. Generally speaking, interior designers focus more on materials, finishes, and the design of the inside of the home. Architects usually focus more on form, structure, overall layout and the exterior of the home. However often these roles overlap and it can get a little messy. 

 

This is why it’s really important to know what you want to achieve when engaging with building industry professionals and to have full transparency from the beginning. Clearly defined roles will make for good working relationships all the way through the project. 

 

In this episode, Alison and Rebeka discuss their current project where they’ve hired an amazing architect and are also both doing the design. They talk about the experience so far, which has overall been incredibly positive, and they share their insights and tips for navigating this scenario.

 

Collaboration can be an incredibly fun and rewarding process, so long as it doesn’t feel like there are too many cooks in the kitchen! Alison and Rebeka talk about when to draw the line with people’s opinions, when to seek professional advice and their top tips for working through the many design decisions that need to be made along the way.
