In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Caps loss to the Kings 4-2. This ends the Caps 2 game winning streak. The loss also makes the margin for error for the Caps making the playoffs that much smaller. The Caps picked up a big wins against the Ducks and Sharks but when facing the surging LA King's they fell short even though they scored first. They were not able to maintain the lead and the Caps lost even though Darcy Kuemper stopped all 19 shots he faced in the first. Later Dan talks about the conversations between Brian Maclellan and Alex Ovechkin about the future of the Capitals and struggles the Capitals faced this year that led to that decision. Dan later talks about Alex Ovechkins great game where he scored his 816th goal. 

Ovechkin's power-play strike moved him to 816 career goals, and he is now just 79 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time record. The goal was also his 36th of the season and his fifth in as many games. Then talks about the importance of Nick Backstrom and how he has been instrumental in his career Nicklas Backstrom recorded the secondary assist on Ovechkin's power play goal, his eighth assist of the season. It marks Backstrom's 333rd career power-play assist, passing Denis Potvin (332) and tying Teemu Selanne (333) for the 28th-most power-play assists in NHL history.
