In my childhood and adolescent years, having breakfast with my family before going to school is a precious memory. The "4 King Kongs" and Shengjian are must-haves on the breakfast table of Shanghainese. Today, traditional breakfasts are hard to find. People from other provinces come to Shanghai and bring with them their own food culture. McDonald's and KFC also started making Chinese food. Under the identity of metropolitan citizens, the traditional Shanghainese way of living is fading.
