    Good story slow narrator
This story was ok. The narrator would pause between every sentence. I thought she fell asleep between chapter - slight exaggeration there! I finished it but it was a slow story anyway and then to have the narrator slow too. I would choose another audible book or buy this in paperback.

    Delightful!
I really enjoyed this story. The Hero is indeed dark & brooding but has a kind & loving heart, the heroine is loyal, passionate & courageous. I loved how their passion for each other sparked & grew, how they got closer & closer to each other, the pace their relationship developed, the way he had this "gut feeling" it was right & trusted her, despite all the outward signs that she was a thief (she was being blackmailed). The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because of the ending: did not care for the secret society, heroine being tied to a cross, Hero becoming the leader of the secret society etc. It was surprising that after all this secret society did to the heroine, Hero still becomes their leader. Just too much. I kind of felt like the story was wonderful all the way till the end. In the end it was kind of weak. I also felt the same way about "A Wicked Liaison" by Margaret McPhee: also building up great & ending kind of weak. But nonetheless I still loved it!
    Interesting-Intriguing
Will now to find the rest of Margaret McPhee's books. My only complaint is the endings excessive n overblown love declarations, sounds more like they're trying to convince them selves. The love had already been spoken and shown, quite adequately. I recommend this book.
    Dark and Brooding Gentlemen
This book was definitely a great read. I have read this novelist books before but I believe this is one of her best work.
    a dark and brooding book
well written. just dark. especially the secret society ending, complete with heroine on cross with black robed members kneeling and kissing master's (hero's) ring. story and characters left me with a rather yucky feeling.
    outstanding love the ending
It was a great book to keep my interest and hard to put down. I look forward to read more Margaret's books

Not for everyone, but very cute!
The Melancholy Princess is a very cute, short story. The follows a princess who just can't find what she is looking for in life. Will she be able to find herself, and maybe a little love along the way?
This was written in a sort of Renaissance/Shakespearean timed vocabulary and dialogue, but much simpler than actual Shakespeare. It's very charming, and I enjoyed it, but if you are the type of person who doesn't like that kind of thing, I wouldn't suggest this.
I really loved the fairy tale type aspect to this story. It was so sweet and more of a fairy tale for juvenile fiction and up. I would probably recommend it most to young adults however, as it is a slightly more mature vocabulary.
Overall, it is just an adorable little tale, and I would love to read the other 8 princess tales that accompany it!
    Fun Story, worth the read!
It is very short, yet the premise and characterizations were well done. The descriptions of the people and the forest were well done. It might take 30 minutes to read, so be aware it is very short. However it was cute, well planned out, and, oddly, it was not missing anything in the story. It was complete, even though it was short. I'd say that was very good authorship. Also, (since I harp on this a lot, it was well edited. No odd words pulled up in spell-check, and no grammar errors. The ending was fun. I liked it. What can I say? It was perfect to read while riding into town. I imagine the other books in the series are short as well, and I intend to collect them. If they are anything like book 1 it will be well worth it.
Thank you too our Author Sheela, Word. Good Job!!
    At least it was free
This book just wasn't all that great, to be honest.
First of all, it doesn't finish wrap up the story when it ends, and my guess is that you'll have to read all 9 stories consecutively to be satisfied with the series. Secondly, I just found it all a bit... predictable, and unrealistic. honestly, while being cute, I just don't think that I'd recommend it to anyone unless you'll willing to read all of the books, and be a bit bored by the flat characters.
    Wonderful Book
This is a very good short story. I loved it.
    Fairy tale
This was an awesome tale, short and sweet, and perfect! Took me back to my childhood and the stories I loved then.

Imprisoned for a year, Jack returns to an uncertain future filled with turmoil and danger when all he wants is Lila.
    Members Reviews:
    History as real life
Ms. Wylie's love of and expertise in the Civil War period shines in all her books, and especially Lila's Vow. Captain Jack Montgomery comes into the life of Lila Sutton on one of the worst days of his life. In June of 1863, in their home, she and her mother nurse soldiers wounded during the battle in their town, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Jack watches her every move, helps out when he can, and falls as quickly in love with Lila as she falls in love with him.
But it's time of war and nothing goes smoothly for the lovers. The only thing for sure is their love and passion and belief in the Union cause. The action never stops. Battle scenes are torturous and heartbreakingly real. Jack's emotions are portrayed so authentically that the reader aches for him and for every soldier serving at the present time in a war zone. Lila doesn't sit home pining away for the man she married before he went back to war. She becomes a Pinkerton agent spying in the South. Information she comes across becomes important enough to the North that it helps end the war. You can just feel that you are living their lives, feeling the anxiety of the wife waiting for the husband to come home and the fear and bravery of the soldier in the middle of the chaos of battle. And just when you think Jack and Lila's world will settle down, Ms. Wylie throws in a surprise.
Lila's Vow hits every point you want in an historical novel. The history is spot on. The romance is lovely, sweet and passionate at the same time. Excitement never ends, and you are kept on the edge of your seat until the very end of the book. Then the end is satisfyingly happily ever after, though you still want the story to go on and on.
    Lila's Vow
From the very first paragraph, I was "caught up" in the story and couldn't wait to read what happens next. To me, that's the sign of a good book. If it captures me from the very beginning, then it's a winner! Although there was a good bit about different battles between the North and the South, it wasn't overdone. There was just a nice mix between the love story of Lila and Jack and their separate lives dealing with the war. Great read!
    Don't miss this one!
I have just started reading Diane Wylie's books and love hem. This one was so good.

    Publisher's Summary:
After a painful divorce, Casey returns to the haven of her childhood, great grandmother Weesie's tiny log cabin. Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia, the cabin rekindles memories of her happiest years as a young child enjoying Granny Weesie's tales of treasure. Casey seeks a peaceful refuge she will share only with her cat, Smokey. However, much more than early memories await Casey in Bluejay, Georgia. Weesie's childhood diary turns up in the cabin. The scrawled pages transport Casey back into the late nineteenth century. Far from finding the peaceful time she expects there, she uncovers a web of adultery, murder and intrigue that threatens to entangle Casey's twenty first century life. That life threatens to become more complex when her new neighbor turns out to be a handsome victim of his own marital disaster.
Velma Lou seldom does anything altruistic. Hiring her cousin, Casey, as a reporter for her newspaper, The Bluejay Bugle, is no exception. Like the voracious vine, Velma Lou has learned the hard way to use her beauty to trap and ensnare. As Casey is drawn deeper into Weesie's life and times, her "real" life becomes more complicated by her growing attraction to Lee. Some strange occurrences happen in the cabin mirrored by tales of ghostly sightings in her family history. As she travels back to 1879, she meets an intriguing cast of characters. Donald Stuart, Lillith's faithful lover, David, his evil hearted twin brother, Ma and Da Garrett, Louisa's parents and her own direct ancestors, Louisa's brothers and the inhabitants of early Bluejay. When Casey becomes involved with a battered wife as she followers the case for the paper, she incurs the ire of an abusive husband, Zeke. Zeke believes he has every right to chastise his own wife and child. Casey begins to take his irate threats seriously when her car is sabotaged. Even Casey has to believe the number of life threatening happenings is no coincidence.

    Paranormal Flavored Romantic Suspense
What did you love best about Kudzu?
The history of the the Appellation people and local.
What did you like best about this story?
The history of the the Appellation people and local.
    Which scene was your favorite?
When Casey formally met the professor. Was she surprised as she had already met him informally in an earlier situation.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I had no extreme reactions. There were tender moments, heart break, betrayal, mystery, murder, and intrigue. Nothing though that caused to laugh or cry. Maybe smile and pout.
    Any additional comments?
The book was listed as a historical romance, however it is more of a romantic suspense.
There is historical background in dream time traveling sequences that Caesy experiences when she reads her great grandmother Weesie's diary while curled in her great grandmother's quilt.
It was a love story, a travel through time and a mystery thriller all in one book.

By failing to produce an heir, Chloris faces a terrible threat: being turned out by her heartless husband. Now, she vows to get with child, even if it means surrendering her body and soul to Lennox's seductive magic. But with a witch hunt brewing, Lennox and Chloris are soon risking everything for their forbidden nights of ecstasy and to protect the secret that could cost them their lives.

    A PARANORMAL HISTORICAL LOVE STORY
I thoroughly enjoyed this second hot instalment of the Taskill Witches (book 1 was The Harlot) as it tells of a plot filled with magic and secret meetings, stolen kisses, yearnings and impossible dreams during a time of Scottish witch trials.
Chloris believes herself barren and, in desperation, prepares to make a bargain with a witch but she isn't prepared for a powerful male witch like Lennox - a handsome, charismatic rogue and he's dangerous not only to her, her family but her heart too. She's scarred both physically and mentally but finds hope in his arms and desire soon turns into passion and lust (explicit) and his revenge soon turned into much more but greed and hatred soon splits the two lovers.
Please remember this is just a fantasy historical hot book and not a true historical reference book so, if you keep this in mind, you will get the most out of this listen.
Worth a credit? A very enjoyable listen which satisfied both the historical and paranormal lover in me and I will happily carry on spending my credits on this magical mythical series, so that folks is a YES. Could at a push, and only because of the last few chapters involving his sister from book 1, be a stand alone listen but why oh why deprive yourselves, download book 1 too.
Slow start but WORTH IT for the ending 3 1/2 stars
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I recommend this book to anyone who has already read Saskia's The Harlot (1st in the trilogy) or those who have already rad the 3rd in the trilogy The Jezebel.
If youve listened to books by Saskia Walker before, how does this one compare?
As a standalone book it would not have been nearly as good...it is truly more enjoyable knowing the background of the whole trilogy. It is not as good as The Harlot and although I haven't listened to The Jezebel (up next on my playlist) I have a feeling I will like it better than The Libertine as well.
Which character as performed by Helen Stern was your favorite?
She does a great "real ladylike" voice. Her voice for Cloris was very good. But all in all I like her as a narrator.....she isn't the best I have ever heard.....but I find that she immediately immerses me in the story and I don't spend time worrying about how some character's voices are done (like with some lesser narrators).
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Sadly NO! The beginning was very slow. That being said I didn't want to stop listening to the last 1/3 of the book.

Set against a changing land after the Civil War, this is a story of a group of renegades trying to find their place among the turmoil and love among the ruins of their previous way of life.
    Editorial Reviews:
Barbara Edelman gives a lively performance of Deborah Camp's book on notorious Civil War-era bandit queen Belle Starr. This romantic retelling of Starr's tumultuous love affairs with some of the most infamous men of her time - including Jesse James and Cole Younger - lets Edelman's skill in recreating accents shine through the characters' spirited dialogue. She slips easily into different voices while keeping up the momentum of the story as it takes listeners from Starr's teenaged years to the heartbreaking end of her relationship with Younger.

    Not Leland
Well I had to give this at least five stars! My Dad made me interested in the old West and the outlaws and such places as Robbers Cave and a few of their hideouts in various states. So I fell in love with the Belle Starr story! I was a little disappointed at finding out about some of their robberies after the fact and then not a lot of information concerning the crime. But I realize it would take twice as many pages to fill in the rest of their lives. A lot of people looked upon Belle Starr, the Youngers and the James, as heroes, and at times maybe they were. This book put a romantic twist on parts of their lives, which I enjoyed very much. I loved the personal touch Deborah Camp gave them.It was very exciting to read of them in such a fashion. Taking into consideration this book of fiction I was pleasantly surprised to see actual true events that I remember reading when I was a youngster in history books I never knew that she had two s

More of a Nag Than An Outlaw
This caught my attention as I love reading novels about women that really existed, espcially strong, gutsy ones. This is disappointed me tho, despite its excellent writing style. This novel tells the story of Belle Starr's ongoing romance with legendary outlaw, Cole Younger. It begins during the Civil War when Belle (a true Rebel) provides a group of Confederate bushwackers (consisting of Cole, Jesse James, and her own brother) some valuable information regarding some nearby Yankees. Belle thinks this one lone espisode qualifies her as spy material.. Unfortunately, this is the most courageous thing she ever does. From this point of the novel on, Belle becomes a bed hopper and a nag. She hangs around the outlaws, but is not one herself. While they are planning bank robberies, she nags and complains at them. When they are stealing horses, she is taking the money and once again, yelling or complaining at one of them. Meantime, she is cuckolding her husband, by sleeping with his fellow bandit, Cole. And the way she speaks to her mother in law is most appalling. When fate takes a bad twist, Belle abandons her children and hops in bed with Cole's cousin.
