The Glitter Glamper is owned and operated by Gretchen Fleener from Paintertainment, LLC, an artistic entertainment agency that has served happy clients in the Twin Cities for over 25 years. The Glitter Glamper delivers temporary body bling ( think glitter beards, glitter tattoos, festival face glitter and even 3-dimensional unicorn horns ) to the Twin Cities metro area by way of Gretchen's mobile studio on sweet, retro wheels: a 1963 Shasta travel trailer!

I had a lovely chat this week with cookbook author Jessie Sheehan. Her cookbook, Snackable Bakes: 100 Easy-Peasy Recipes for Exceptionally Scrumptious Sweets and Treats is fantastic. This is the kind of baking book that I love because it mirrors the way I cook. Rustic, one bowl, easy baking recipes that are so delicious they jump off the page into your saved recipe files of things you want to make. Snackable Bakes is full of recipes that minimize time but maximize fun. Jessie’s warm, easy approach made me her fan right away, and I promptly ordered the book for my niece and followed her on Tick Tok and Instagram.

Tameka Jones founded Lip Esteem during the pandemic. After decades as a makeup artist, she used her downtime during the pandemic to rethink her path. The result? A line of her own, Lip Esteem, a Black woman-owned beauty start-up specializing in plant-based and gluten- and cruelty-free lip products.

Jones’s line consists of lipsticks, glosses, and liners,  Plus, she’ll sell an assortment of lip care products fit for combating harsh winters—an exfoliator, vitamin E stick, and moisturizing lip balm.  In addition to the products that Lip Esteem sells, Jones also offers makeup tutorials and one-on-one makeover sessions.

Meredith Deeds has spent the last 20 years writing and teaching about food all over the country. Besides being a food consultant, writer and an occasional host of my radio show, The Weekly Dish, She has co-authored six cookbooks, among them are the James Beard Award finalist The Big Book of Appetizers (Chronicle Books), her best selling, The Mixer Bible (Robert Rose, Inc.), and 300 Sensational Soups (October 2008, Robert Rose, Inc.), which was chosen by Good Morning America as one of the top 10 cookbooks of 2008.

Try her chilled Avocado and Soup with Crab Salad

Chilled Avocado Soup with Crab Salad

Serves 6

Soup

4 small avocados (about 2 cups)3 c. buttermilk1/4 c. basil leaves2 tbsp. fresh lime juice1/2 tsp. salt

Crab Salad

8 oz. lump crab meat, picked over1/4 c. finely chopped red bell pepper1/4 c. finely chopped red onion2 tbsp. finely chopped basil1 tbsp. fresh lime juice

Directions

Puree all the soup ingredients together in a blender until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and press a piece of plastic wrap on the surface of the soup so it does not discolor. Chill for at least 4 hours, or overnight.

In a small bowl, gently combine the crab salad ingredients, trying not to break up the crab too much.

Taste the chilled soup and re-season with more salt and lime juice, if necessary. Divide among 4 serving bowls and top each with some of the crab salad.
