Don't Blame The Mom

This is the concluding part to our deep dive into a truly dark case.

That of a man so disturbed & deranged his crimes can only be described as like something from the most terrifying of horror films.

Except what you’re about to hear really happened ..

Local oddball Ed Gein was caught by local sheriffs in Plainfield Wisconsin after the sudden disappearance of Bernice Worden led them directly to his isolated property, situated on the edge of town .

From there they had the task of searching further into his dark, filthy house thus uncovering horrors so unimaginably disturbing & grotesque that the case has been revisited & analysed many times since it occurred back in 1957.

Not only was Gein found to be responsible for killing at least 2 women , but it was also revealed he had been creeping into local cemeteries in the dead of night to dig up the graves of women who had been buried there.

After taking their corpses home to fashion keepsakes from their bones & skin he would use said keepsakes to wear, to eat from and even to hang in his squalid home.

His vile night time antics led to Gein being recognised, even to this day, as one of the most notorious killers in true crime history thanks to the depravity of his ghoulish crimes .

Unsurprisingly it also led to his case inspiring several different well known horror films.

Ed Gein has long since died but the horror of what took place on his filthy property back in 1957 still baffles people the world over to this day.

It’s remembered as a case so bizarre & so grisly , that it is hard to find any other quite like it ..

It was the year 1957 when the small town of Plainfield, Wisconsin was suddenly rocked by a shocking discovery.

What quickly followed was the uncovering of crimes that were so bizarre, & so grisly that they would go down in true crime history as being one of the most heinous cases of the century .

51 year old Ed Geins’ isolated farm house was searched after a local store owner went missing.

What was meant to be a routine check ultimately led to local law enforcement stumbling upon a treasure trove of macabre objects.

Some of which included vests & suits fashioned from human skin, furniture & even soup bowls the local loner had created from human body parts like skin & bones. Horrific, yes, but it doesn’t end there….

Despite the years that have passed & due to Ed’s terrifying activities within his house of horrors, the stomach churning crimes he committed means he remains one of the most talked about killers even to this day.

His sick story even helped to inspire characters from movies such as ‘The Silence Of The Lambs’ & ‘Psycho’.

Hence why even to this day he still remains known as one of the most infamous killers in history…

In today’s episode we continue our 2 part deep dive into the case of 39 year old Sophie Toscan Du Plantier , a successful French television producer who was found brutally murdered in her holiday home in West Cork, Ireland.

Sophie’s horrific & bloody murder was the subject of much local speculation in the small town of Schull leading to many rumours & suspicion. Most of which was cast mainly upon one local resident , odd, eccentric British journalist Ian Bailey who had settled in West Cork years earlier .

Baileys bizarre behaviour & insistence on inserting himself into not only the crime scene, but writing about & continually talking about her murder only added to him becoming the number one suspect in her killing .

Today we discuss the process of investigation following her murder & all the different factors that may well have led to Sophie’s killer walking away a free man.

Not only leaving her heart broken family deprived of justice for their loved one, but also questioning how perhaps if things had been done differently in both Irish & French courts then her murderer would have been sentenced & duly punished for this brutal & evil crime….

Sometimes everyday life can get too much, or perhaps the fast pace of living in a busy city can become overwhelming.

When one needs a break it might help to visit somewhere peaceful so you can relax & get away from it all .

Tragically what Sophie hoped would be an idyllic vacation would soon turn into a hellish nightmare, as her battered body was found just days before Christmas .

She had been brutally murdered in her isolated home by a vicious & unknown assailant.

Sophie’s murder was poorly investigated & her crime scene compromised from early on, leading to her case going unsolved for years.

That is, until charges were finally brought against the main suspect British journalist Ian Bailey despite him not being in the country to face his sentence…

Whilst some members of Sophie’s family believe ian Bailey was indeed her killer,

others believe the identity of the real culprit still remains unknown to this day.

In today’s episode we look at all the different factors of Sophie’s tragic murder, how different mistakes led to a brutal killer remaining free, & the injustice that her family continue to suffer knowing no one has served any prison time for Sophie’s brutal killing ……

On November 9th 1971 one of the worst crimes to ever take place in America at that time occurred in the safe suburban town of Westfield, New Jersey .

Devout church goer & normal family man John List had decided the best way to solve all of his problems would be to murder his entire family one by one.

Eliminating them all in the most cold blooded fashion before running away to begin a new life under a false identity .

For nearly 20 years List managed to evade capture & settle comfortably into his new persona whilst landing himself on the ‘FBI’s Most Wanted’ list.

That is, he thought he had evaded capture but that was until a very well known American tv show blew his cover by using a new advancement in technology to show what their murder suspect would now look like.

Finally List was identified, tracked down & made to face justice for killing his wife, mother & his 3 teenage children .

And once in prison List began to talk about his reasoning & the mindset that had led to him committing the unthinkable, wicked, cold blooded killings of his own family. His own flesh & blood whom he was meant to protect at all costs .

This case is about a man who really believed he was always one step ahead of the law, that he had committed the perfect crime, & gotten away with murder.

Multiple murders infact that are still so unbelievable that to this day List still remains known as the original & ultimate family annihilator.

It also goes to show that you never really know who you might be married to, & no matter how normal one may seem on the outside, on the inside a dangerous psychopath could be lurking under that fake facade…..
