When you break your extended dry fast, You know it’s crucial to make sure you take it nice and easy with the refeed. You start with water and you tell yourself I need to dedicate at least one to two days for gentle rehydration, so that I can gently reawaken my sleeping digestive system. I mean we’ve all been there. The ambition is huge. I’m going to do 9 days! But just getting through 5 days of dry fasting is a mountain top few people are able to achieve. You’ve come so far reaching day 5. Your mouth is dry, and you dream of water. You finally get the water and you tell yourself: “honestly, I could just live off of water right now, forget food. How did water get so good? You taste every mineral from sodium to potassium, magnesium and calcium.” 6 hours of sipping water pass and suddenly you can’t stop thinking about having something more nutritious. The excuses start piling on. I need to be able to eat a meal with my family in 4 days, I have an appointment coming up, I’ve already done so much, shouldnt I eat right before bed to let my digestive system wake up over night? The list of excuses and reasons keeps growing. You decide to end the fast. That bone broth is so delicious, and so flavorful, but as you finish the bowl you start thinking about making a second one. Then a third. You somehow manage to keep it together and you only have one bowl of broth every 3 hours for the first day. But then you start thinking about what else can you add, and you start dabbling with a little bit of this and a little bit of tha. Is it too early for some cheese? Oh, just a little bit. Eggs? Yes, please. Burger? I mean what harm can one burger do. And suddenly you’re back to eating meals and realize you were only halfway through your refeed.
