Dear Listeners,
By far, the most painful thing about hosting this podcast and in the quitting kratom community writ large, is the conflict about the use of Suboxone or buprenorphine to treat kratom addiction. Please try to see both sides, now.
On one hand, often victims of the opioid pill crisis of the 2000s and many moving on to heroin or street drugs, we have a bunch of listeners who came to kratom to get off Suboxone. These folks often have quit both drugs and Suboxone multiple times. Many have had honeymoon periods with Suboxone where it helped for some block of time but eventually stopped being a positive experience. Almost all of them had horrendous trouble with stopping the subs with hard and difficult withdrawals from subs. Some first time kratom quitters with bad Suboxone experiences as well. All these folks feel very strongly they have an obligation to warn others about this, as they wish they had been warned.
On the other hand, we have listeners who have a horrible kratom addiction, often to extract products. These typically result in very expensive habits spending $100 to $200 per day. Some of these folks have been able to quit multiple times but end up relapsing back on kratom. A few of them end up feeling suicidal from being stuck in this cycle. Out of desperation, they turn to seeing an addiction doctor and are prescribed buprenorphine. Many of these folks feel strongly that bupe saved their lives, but they feel judged not by the general public but by their own peers in the recovery community. They worry many others are being scared from trying Suboxone and are needlessly suffering stuck in addiction because of stigmatization of a valid treatment pathway.
Please try to see both sides, now.
Sincerely, Charlie
