Post traumatic Growth. New studies show that 90% of people thrive after challenges. Post traumatic growth isn't getting back to where you were before, it's about thriving beyond that point - achieving heightened states of joy and awareness.
This is a concept similar to resilience, but distinct from it. Two psychologist coined this term - Richard Tedeschi and Lawrence Calhoun. Post-traumatic growth is positive change that occurs in the aftermath of struggling with any major life crisis or traumatic event. Each person is different for each person. Post-traumatic growth is a process, not an outcome, and typically involves developing positive responses in these areas: appreciation of life, enhanced relationships with others, new possibilities in life, newly identified personal strength, and spiritual or existential change.
Dr Calhoun's book is Posttrumatic Growth Theory, Research, and Application.

Change the way we look at problems and creative solutions can come to us. A solution is always out there, if we don't get stuck in the problem . There's always a solution, but if I'm locked into the idea that there is no solution we won't find it.

How Trees Can Help Us in This Time of Stress
Studies have found that spending time around trees — even simply looking at them — can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve our mood. Research shows that both exercising in forests and quietly sitting in the presence of trees help reduce the damaging stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline. Japanese researchers call this practice Shinrin-yoku, or "forest bathing," and have documented remarkable effects on the immune system, including an increase in natural killer cells that help the body fight illness and disease. Trees literally breathe life into us — releasing phytoncides, natural aromatic compounds that, when we inhale them, calm our nervous system and strengthen our immunity.
As Hermann Hesse so beautifully wrote: "Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth."
Trees are healers and guides, always present and always ready to help — if we simply know how to be with them. Spiritually, trees have been revered across every culture and tradition as bridges between the earth and the heavens. Their roots go deep into the dark, nourishing soil while their branches reach toward the light — a living reminder of our own journey. Many indigenous traditions teach that trees are conscious beings, that they communicate, feel, and care for one another through vast underground networks. Science is now confirming what wisdom traditions have always known.
The relationship goes both ways. As we receive their gifts, we can offer our care and gratitude in return.
Simple ways to connect with a tree:
Think of trees as your friends. They have been here long before us, and they are here for us now.
