We discuss our favourite mussel recipes and chat to the innovative chef Wylie Dufresne who tells us about his scientific approach to cooking. To finish up wine maker Daniel Buchanan tells us how he and other wine makers are dealing with the sudden cold snap on Melbourne's first wintery day!

What an amazing day here in Melbourne town, and half of Melbourne's foodies are off to the Melbourne Tomato Festival... including Cam!

So on today's show we had some interviews recorded earlier in the week: first up with Michael Caiafaabout the proposed changes to the Queen Victoria Market, we had a market report with Damien Pikeat the Prahran Market, and we cooked up an autumn salad with Taxi Kitchen's Tony Twitchett.

On today's show we spoke to fish guru John Susman about how we can try and make some more sustainable choices next time we're at the fish counter. Rather than a good ol' fillet of salmon, why not try some Leatherjacket, or Flathead, or Red Spot Whiting? We also mentioned his excellent new tome The Australian Fish and Seafood Cookbook which we think is right up there with The Cook's Companion as an Australian kitchen essential.

Next up we chatted to Massimo Mele about the ferretti pasta shape - how it's made, and what to serve it with. We also spoke about next week's Melbourne Tomato Festival which will be an awesome event in its new location this year.

We finished the show with The Hidden Souk's Adrian Kennedy, who spoke about the history and importance of cumin, and the area of Morocco that they source it from.

On today's show we marked the 125th anniversary of Melbourne's Hopetoun Tea Rooms, had an excellent chat to Pope Joan's Matt Wilkinson about what he's cooking in Autumn, and checked in with the 2017 vintage via wine maker Duncan Buchanan.

On today's show we spoke to Mitchell Bartley about the Save Preston Market campaign, and Geraldo Lopez from La Tortilleria. And most importantly we had our final market report from John for quite some time as he heads into hospital for some surgery - hopefully he'll be back in the market stalls later this year, all the best bloke!

On a drizzly Melbourne Sunday we spoke to Melbourne Chef Nikki Reimer about the recent closure of her Richmond eatery Union Dining, and the rather unusual process of closing a restaurant and packing it all up after many years of service.

Next up Samantha Gowing joined us from her abode in Northern NSW, and also happened to bring Australian music icon Normie Rowe along for the ride. We spoke about foods that make you feel good, and what Sam is looking forward to this Autumn.

To finish the day's show we spoke to winemaker Duncan Buchanan live from the vineyards of Victoria. Vintage 2017 is shaping up OK for us Victorians (we've escaped the heat that so many other regions have experienced), despite the fact that yields are slightly lower than what we'd consider "normal".

  • Eat It - 12 February 2017

We started today's show by mentioning a couple of upcoming events you might like to check out...

Scott Pickett and Adam D'Sylva are cooking at the upcoming St Anthony's Primary School Twilight Fair, rockstar farmer Joel Salatin is in Australia to speak at the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance's talk at Jonai Farms, and there is an excellent lineup for the #CookForSyria event in early March at The Point.

Melbourne food icon Guy Grossi and his son Carlo popped into our East Brunswick container to talk about his recent appointment - annointment? - as this year's King of Moomba. We also chatted about tomato season, and the upcoming Melbourne Tomato Festival that has moved to a bigger location this year.

We spoke to John at the Vic Market.

To finish today's show, the team behind Smith & Daughters Shannon Martinez and Mo Wyse came in to speak about their excellent new cookbook (which just happens to be vegan). It's 2017; we're cool with veganism, yeah?

We're very excited to be back for 2017 and another year on the mighty 3RRR! We had a quick chat about what we ate over the summer period.

We had a chat to Dr Rosemary Stanton about all the supposedly miraculous weight-loss methods that seem to pop up at this time of year. Goji berries? Chia seeds? And more recently, tumeric? Guess what, none of these foods have any magical properties and won't cure your cancer. Just eat a healthy balanced diet and you'll be the best you that you can be.

Next up we had our first market report for 2017 with John at the Queen Vic.

Max Allen is one of Australia's leading wine writers, and he made the trek into East Brunswick to have a chat about all things vintage 2017. In short, this year feels like it's "back to normal" with the vintage no longer being so early and a slightly cooler summer. We also had a look at a McLaren Vale wine called Lino Ramble, which is one of the new gen of McLaren Vale wines made "on the side" by winemakers who also work for bigger labels.
