Happy 2023!! Next year is here and with it, a new season of Eavesdroppin’, your favourite real life, true crime, supernatural podcast with Geordie & Michelle!

So what’s on the menu today? It’s dark, it’s icky, it’s season 2 of The Vow… Yes, this week we have an update on the NXIVM cult and Keith Raniere because there’s been court cases, new shock revelations and sentencing… But first we kick off with some namedroppin’ when Michelle talks about having lunch with comedy legend Steve Coogan and how she tried to get him to become an Eavesdropper… Geordie gets exasperated with an unidentified Australian bird and Michelle reads the inspiring words of Alan Watts as a tonic for the new year…

And then… NXIVM. Geordie dives deep into the The Vow Part 2, touching on new information that has come to light about the cult, its members, the disturbing events and what’s happened to Keith Raniere. Hello Eavesdroppers! First things first, HAPPY NEW YEAR – almost!! 2022 has flown by, just like the UFO we’re going to talk about… 

On May 20, 1967, in the Manitoba wilderness outside of Winnipeg in Canada, Stefan Michalak was out in the forest, prospecting for quartz. What he found instead was a UFO! This week Michelle talks about Canada’s most well-known unsolved UFO mystery and goes through the twists and turns for the case, from Stefan initially spotting two cigar-shaped UFOs through to his approach of the craft and how the craft set him on fire! Was it a military craft that had landed for repairs? Was it another Rendlesham incident? Was it lost aliens? Or was it all a load of bull? In 1989, Bill and Liz Rich moved their family into a beautiful old stone farmhouse in the Brecon Beacons in Wales. Looking for ‘the good life’, the couple saw the move as a chance to live off the land, raise their family, keep some lovely animals and live a happy, hippy life. But the farmhouse was built from old gravestones and before they knew it, all their animals had died and the family was haunted by ghosts, poltergeists and demons. Find out how they lost their fortune, lost their family swampland called Tullaree and the mysterious circumstances leading up to how Margaret eventually lost her life.

On Christmas Eve, 1945, a devastating house fire ripped through the family home of George Sodder in Fayetteville, West Virginia. As George, his wife and four of his kids escaped the blaze, they sadly watched their home burn to the ground, knowing their five other children were trapped inside and unable to get out. Or were they? This week Michelle looks into the mystery of the missing Sodder children. After the fire, no remains of the children were ever found… Were they kidnapped? Was the fire deliberately lit? On September 23 in 1986, the brutal murder of 23 year old Beth Barnard shook the small community of Phillip Island off the coast of Victoria in Australia. It was an open secret that Beth was having an affair with local farmer and entrepreneur Fergus Cameron, and it came as no surprise that prime suspect number one was Fergus’s wife Vivienne. Except on the night of Beth’s murder, Vivienne and Fergus were involved in a number of strange situations and since then, no one has ever seen Vivienne alive again… What happened to Beth? Where is Vivienne? Did Vivienne kill Beth? Is there something else going on here? Listen now to Geordie discussing this Australian murder mystery.

Michelle then goes off-piste with a medical mystery that baffled doctors and courts and almost resulted in a woman losing her children… In 2002, mother of two Lydia Fairchild had split from her long-term partner. To get social welfare, she and her kids and ex-partner had to undergo DNA testing… and it didn’t go well for Lydia. Turns out she had no DNA connection to her kids and it didn’t take long for courts to begin criminal proceedings against her for fraud, a possible surrogacy scam and identity theft. But Lydia pushed these kids out of her birth canal and knew she was the biological mother. What was going on? How could this happen? Listen now to find out!
