How Successful Entrepreneurs Manage Time Well

Time management is one of the most critical skills for any entrepreneur. After all, your time is limited, and successful entrepreneurs need to make the most of every minute.

Here are a few tips for how to manage your time successfully as an entrepreneur:

    1. First, prioritize your tasks. Create a task list and then order them by importance. Making a list of your most important tasks will help you focus on the essential jobs.

    • Of course, some jobs will always take precedence over others. You can also use the Eisenhower Matrix to help you better prioritize your tasks.

    • The Eisenhower Matrix is a time management technique used to prioritize tasks. President Dwight Eisenhower introduced the method and was known for his practical time management skills. The matrix categorizes tasks into four quadrants:

    • Quadrant 1: Urgent and Important. Quadrant 2: Important, but not Urgent. Quadrant 3: Urgent but not Important. Quadrant 4: Not Urgent and Not Important

    • Tasks that are both urgent and important should be at the top of the list. These are the tasks that you need to complete first. The tasks in the second part of the series are also important.

    • Quadrant 3 tasks are urgent, but you can often delegate them to someone else. Quadrant 4 tasks are neither critical nor essential, and you can eliminate these tasks.

    1. Second, create a schedule and stick to it. Having a set schedule will help you use your time more effectively and ensure that you forget nothing important. Leave some flexibility in your plan to account for unexpected tasks or delays.

    • One effective way of creating an efficient schedule is to use the time-block method. It involves scheduling specific periods for certain tasks. For example, you might block out two hours to work on a project and one hour to check and respond to emails.

    • Once you have created your schedule, try your best to stick to it.

    1. Next, delegate tasks. As an entrepreneur, you probably have a lot on your plate. Don’t do everything yourself–delegate tasks to others on your team or hire outside help when necessary. You can free up your time to focus on the most critical tasks.

    • Hire a virtual assistant to handle some of your administrative tasks or use a project management tool to delegate tasks to your team members.

    • If you have trouble trusting, try using the 80/20 rule. This rule states that 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort. Focus on the tasks that will have the most significant impact and delegate the rest.

    1. Set boundaries. It’s important to set boundaries between work and personal time. When working, try to avoid distractions and stay focused on the task. Once you’ve clocked out for the day, resist the urge to check your email or do any more work.

    • It would help if you also learned to say “no” when feeling overwhelmed. It’s better to focus on a few tasks and do them well than to do too much and end up doing a poor job.

    1. Finally, take breaks. Working non-stop is not sustainable in the long run. You will burn out quickly if you don’t take breaks to relax and rejuvenate. Schedule some time for yourself every day, even if it’s just a few minutes.

    • Take a walk, read a book, or take a nap. Breaks will help you stay focused and productive when you are working.

Managing your time well is essential for entrepreneurs. By following the tips above, you can make sure that you are using your time in the most effective way possible. Prioritize your tasks, create a schedule, delegate, and take breaks to relax. By taking these steps, you can set yourself up for success.

Six Types of Goals Everyone Should Consider Making

Everyone understands that goals are important to success, but there are still relatively few people that actually set goals regularly and commit to them.

Part of the challenge is not understanding the main categories of goals. There are several areas of life that have a great impact on the rest of your life. It’s important to have suitable goals in each of these areas to have a fulfilling life.

    Consider these six critical areas:

    1. Financial issues are a major source of stress. This is hardly news to most of us. Financial success opens endless opportunities and can also free up a lot of time, especially if you reach the point where you don’t have to work any longer.

    • Many people are uncomfortable with the idea of becoming wealthy. They have pangs of guilt over having too much. However, it’s difficult to truly be free unless you’re financially secure.

  • Given the importance of money in modern society, it’s important for everyone to have goals related to this topic.

  • Most of us spend 40+ hours each week at a job of some sort. It’s a huge part of our waking hours. When you include getting ready for work, driving there and back, and all the time you spend outside of work thinking about work, it’s a lot of hours.

    • There’s a lot of competition in the workplace. If you don’t have any goals regarding the direction of your career, you’re much less likely to be satisfied with your career growth.

  • Down deep, we all admire those people that visit the pyramids of Egypt, try whitewater rafting, or go to Africa on a safari. Taking part in adventurous activities gives you a new perspective on life. It also makes you really interesting to others!

    • Each person has their own idea of what constitutes adventure. To one person, it might be skydiving, but to another it might be spending a long weekend in a foreign country like Canada.

  • Self-Development. We’re happiest when we’re growing in some way. It’s disappointing to take a hard look at yourself and realize that you haven’t changed significantly in the last 5+ years. We feel proud of ourselves when we become more developed and capable. There are a variety of ways to do this.

    • Take college courses.
  • Learn an instrument.
  • Learn a language.
  • Learn how to garden.
  • Learn how to do a cartwheel.
  • Learn how to paint or draw.

  • If your health fails you, there’s not much else that matters. Most people that set goals fail to include a health goal of some sort. This is a mistake.

    • Be sure to include a diet or exercise goal. Include the input of your physician. Keep in mind that being incredibly fit does nothing for your longevity. Moderate activities followed consistently will usually provide adequate exercise.

  • Long-term. We often make the mistake of only setting short-term goals to get out of the discomfort we’re currently feeling. It might be to come up with an extra $500 this month or to lose 15 pounds.

    • Ideally, short-term goals exist to move us toward long-term goals. Pursuing an objective set far into the future gives your life meaning.

How many goals do you have? Do you have the six main types of goals covered? What other categories can you think of that are important to you? Consider what’s most important to you and ensure that you have a goal that addresses it.

Most successful people have unbalanced lives because they put too much attention on one area and neglect others. Learn from their mistakes by maintaining balance and you’ll find greater overall happiness and fulfillment.

Top 10 Ways to Learn More About Yourself

You spend every minute with yourself, but you don’t know yourself as well as you think. You love to deceive yourself, whether you realize it or not. As they say, “You can’t handle the truth.”

Unfortunately, if you don’t know yourself, it’s hard to make progress. It’s like driving a car that doesn’t run well, but you refuse to look under the hood. There are issues under your hood that are in your way!

Try these techniques to get to know yourself better:

    1. Take a personality test. There are plenty of tests available online. Some are better than others, so be sure to do some research. The more sophisticated and useful tests aren’t free, but you’re worth it!

  • List your values. What matters to you? What do you stand for? Make a list of your values and put them in order of which are most important to you. Do you live your life according to your values?

    • Imagine you’re an acquaintance of yours. How would you order your values based on your words and actions?

  • Whom do you admire? Who are the people you admire the most? Why do you admire them? What character traits and skills do you admire in others? What you admire in others says a lot about you.

  • Whom do you despise and why? Just as informative are the people you strongly dislike. Why do you dislike them? What exactly about them is it that you dislike? Do you see any of those traits in yourself?

  • Ask your friends and family for input. Your friends and family know more about you than you think. They definitely know a thing or two about you that you don’t know. Ask them for assistance in learning more about yourself. Be prepared to be surprised.

  • Imagine watching yourself. Imagine observing yourself for a day. Imagine watching yourself eat. Imagine seeing yourself in your typical clothing. Note how you interact with others.

    • You don’t appear to others the way you think you do. This is a chance to see what everyone else sees. If possible, consider setting up a video camera.

  • If you could be granted one wish, what would it be? Imagine being given a wish. What would you do with it? What can you infer from that?

    • Wishing for a billion dollars is different from wishing for world peace. Wishing for a loving spouse is different from wishing for the ability to fly or for a new sports car.

  • Your answer will tell you a lot about what’s most important to you.

  • What do you believe is the meaning of life? If you had to sum up the meaning of life in one sentence, what would it be? How did you come to that decision?

  • What is your biggest regret? What is the one thing you wish you could go back in time and do over? Why do you regret it so much? How would your life be different if you could redo a few decisions?

  • What makes you anxious? What causes you stress? What makes you worry? Why do these things upset you? What does your anxiety cost you? How does it limit you? How would your life change if you felt much less anxiety?
  •

Knowing yourself is a great challenge. You’ve probably never seriously considered why you think and behave the way you do. We spend a lot of time contemplating people and situations outside of ourselves, but little time investigating ourselves.

If you knew yourself better, you could make a few adjustments and enjoy an easier and more successful life. You’d also be in a better position to deal with old emotional wounds.

Be courageous and take a long, hard look at yourself. Getting to know yourself is challenging, but in the long run, you’ll find that it’s worth the effort.

Need a Hero? Make Your Future Self Your Hero

Maybe your hero is LeBron James or Albert Einstein. Those might be worthwhile heroes. However, it would be even better to become your own hero. Your life is your story, and every story needs a hero.

By defining the hero of your story, you have a chance to become that hero. And it's important for you to define the hero of your story, because the hero of each story is different. The hero of your story won't be the same as the hero of someone else's story.

    A few ground rules:

    • Your hero has to start where you are. You have a particular starting point and resources available to you. Your hero has to begin from your starting point.

  • You have to set a time limit on when you'll become your hero. Your hero doesn’t have 100 years to work with. You also need a deadline to work with. A good deadline is 5 to 10 years from now. At that point, you can reevaluate and create a new hero from your new starting point.

  • Avoid the tendency to limit yourself. You can accomplish a whole lot in 5-10 years. You’re a hero, after all.

  • Become your own hero:

    1. Define your hero’s accomplishments. What has your hero accomplished? From this moment in time, until your deadline, what will your hero achieve? Once you're satisfied with your list, ask yourself how you could make it even better. Remember to work within the time frame you've given yourself.

  • Define your hero’s attributes. What qualities does your hero have? What attributes would they have to possess in order to accomplish everything they’ve accomplished? What qualities in a person do you most admire and respect?

  • Define your hero’s life. How does your hero live his life? How does he spend his day? Who is in his life? What types of things is he involved with? Where does he live? What time does he get out of bed? What does he eat for lunch? What is important to him?

  • Define your hero’s goals. Your hero has accomplished a lot, but she's not finished. What are her goals now? Whom does she want to become? What does the future hold for her? What are her plans?

  • Make a plan to become your own hero. Starting where you are right now, what do you need to do to become the hero you've defined? What changes do you need to make in your life? What goals do you need to set and accomplish to become your hero?

    • Consider your hero’s finances, health and fitness, social circle, accomplishments, and skills. This is just for starters. Imagine what needs to be done to transform from your current self into your hero.

  • Get started. This is the hardest part for most people. It’s fun to sit down and plan your future. It’s a little harder to actually get busy and make it happen. You have years to complete your mission, but you don’t have time to spare.

  • There’s no time to waste. The more time you wait to get started, the longer it’s going to take to become your hero.

Unless your life is perfect, your story needs a hero. You can define who that hero is going to be. There's still time to become the most incredible person you've ever known.

When someone asks you, “Who is your hero?” you can honestly say, “Me, in 10 years.” Be the hero of your story.

    How to Reduce Procrastination

Procrastination isn't just a symptom; it's a condition. It tends to develop over time and can also lead to other issues. If you procrastinate, you may want to stop and ask yourself what exactly it is that you are "putting off" and if it is even worth it.

If you accept that procrastination is more than just an annoyance, you can begin to deal with the habit and develop more effective ways to manage your time.

The biggest key to conquering procrastination is realizing what you are doing when you procrastinate.

Some people ask themselves, "Why am I procrastinating?" Perhaps it's to make themselves feel like they're accomplishing something. Or maybe it's a coping mechanism, a way to divert attention from something unpleasant or painful.

So how can you reduce procrastination and regain control of your time? Try these tips:

    1. Identify the habit. You might find that your procrastination stems from re-prioritizing your workload. A person who delays an essential task for good reasons is not procrastinating.

    • On the other hand, procrastination is the issue if you never get back to completing these necessary tasks or keep focusing on other functions to avoid the important ones.

    • You can tell that you're procrastinating if you do some of the following things: You make sure to fill your day with tasks that aren't urgent. Or you spend time reading the same emails several times a day with no decision on how to act on them.

    • You're also procrastinating if you begin an urgent task but then wander off to grab a cup of coffee. In that situation, you know it's procrastination when you never get back to finish it.

    1. Just start working. A sure way to procrastinate is to spend too much time deciding whether or not to take action. Instead of debating, take action and get the work finished. You'll only regret not doing it if you let it slide.

    • The reason this tip is so practical is in how it helps you take the first step. The first step is usually the hardest. Once you've taken it, the rest becomes more straightforward.

    • If you had to push a car, for example, you'd find that the most challenging step is getting the vehicle to move, but it gets much more manageable once you manage to do that. Apply the same principle to your work.

    • Even if it's small, take the first step toward what you want to get done. It doesn't have to be the most significant step you've ever taken – just get the ball rolling, and you'll gain momentum.

    1. Avoid assuming that willpower is the answer. The temptation to procrastinate can come from within you, but it's also the result of your environment. In an environment in which you don't feel supported, you don't feel welcomed.

    • In that environment, you don't fully realize your intentions. Ask yourself, “What do I need to achieve my goals?” Then make a list of the steps you need to take to achieve those goals.

    • Once you've figured out the steps, get started taking those steps, one step at a time. One step leads to another, and another, and soon you're moving in the direction of your goals. Many people assume that willpower is enough.

    • But willpower -- one type of motivation -- is like fuel to a car. The issue with relying on willpower is that you can only use it before you feel completely wiped out.

    • In addition, once your willpower runs out, it's challenging to find the motivation to start back up again. That's why it's so important to think about your goals and plan the steps you need to take to achieve those goals.

    • Then take those steps without focusing on the unpleasant aspects of the task.

You can link procrastination to a lack of motivation. If you become preoccupied with your own goals, you're less susceptible to procrastination. That's why it's always a good idea to set goals that motivate you.

It's also a good idea to plan. Planning can reduce the need for willpower. It's already challenging to use willpower to get a task done, so planning can make it easier. Just as you have to eradicate procrastination to be more productive, many factors contribute to your success.

Also, remember that there's no shame in asking for help. Many people procrastinate simply because they're afraid to ask for help. Talk to your friends, family, or coworkers if you need help and get the help you need to finish the task.

How to Act Like Yourself in a World Where It’s Difficult

We all know what it’s like to feel like an outsider. Maybe you don’t quite fit in with the clique in school or feel uncomfortable at work because you don’t act the way everyone else does.

It's tough to be yourself when it seems like everyone around you is trying to be someone else. But it’s important to remember that being yourself is one of the best things you can do for yourself and those around you.

Here are a few tips on how to stay true to yourself, even in a world where it doesn’t feel easy:

    1. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Your individuality is one of your greatest strengths, so don’t waste it by trying to fit in with everyone else. Instead, embrace your quirks and differences and celebrate the things that make you unique.

    • You can eliminate the fear of being yourself by doing a few things: Focus on your strengths and talents and build confidence in these areas. Traditional schools often teach you to improve on the skills that you’re weakest in, but try to focus on the things that come naturally to you.

    • It will help you feel good about yourself and strengthen you to be your true self.

    • Surround yourself with supportive friends and family members who encourage you to be yourself. When you spend time with people who embrace their true selves, it will be easier for you to do the same.

    • Being around people who pretend to be something they are not will ultimately make it harder for you to stay true to yourself.

    • Practice self-compassion. If you make a mistake or say something that isn’t popular, don’t beat yourself up. We all make mistakes, and we all have different opinions. What matters most is how you learn from your mistakes and grow.

    • So instead of being hard on yourself, show yourself compassion and understanding.

    1. Be kind to others, but don’t let them take advantage of you. It's tough to stand up for yourself and your beliefs, especially if those around you are pressuring you to do or say things that don’t feel right to you.

    • But remember that being kind doesn’t mean letting others walk all over you. You can be a caring and compassionate person while staying true to yourself and your beliefs.

    • Here are some suggestions on remaining kind without the risk that someone will take advantage of you: Set clear boundaries with the people in your life. Let them know what you will and won’t tolerate and stick to these boundaries, even if it’s complicated.

    • Don’t be afraid to say “no” when you need to. It is hard for many people, but it’s important to remember that you don’t owe anyone anything. If you don’t want to do something, don’t do it.

    • Choose your battles wisely. There will be times when it’s not worth arguing with someone or standing up for yourself. If the situation is not worth the stress, let it go.

    1. Stand up for what you believe in, even if it’s unpopular. It's easy to give in to peer pressure or go along with the crowd, but it’s important to stand up for what you believe in, even if it’s not popular. It takes courage, but it’s important to stay true to yourself and your values.

    • How to stand up for yourself: Start by developing a strong sense of self-confidence. Believing in yourself and your abilities will help you speak up when you need to and stand firm against others trying to pressure you into doing something that feels wrong.

    • Practice speaking up for yourself in small ways. Start with situations where it’s less risky to speak your mind, such as with friends or family members. It will help you build the confidence and skills to speak up in more complicated situations.

    • Know your rights. It’s important to know when someone is violating your rights or trying to pressure you into doing something illegal. This knowledge will give you the strength to stand up for yourself in these situations.

    • Learn to trust your gut instinct. If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Trusting your gut instinct will help you stay true to yourself and avoid deciding you’ll regret it later.

    1. Avoid comparing yourself to others–you are unique and amazing just as you are! Embrace your quirks and oddities — they make you special and interesting!

    • Here’s how to embrace your quirks: Focus on your strengths and gifts. Think about the things that make you unique from others, whether it’s your sense of humor, creativity, or ability to connect with people. Cultivate these qualities and use them to shine!

    • Get to know yourself better. Reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Journaling, practicing daily reflection, or talking to a therapist can help you get to know yourself better and appreciate what makes you unique.

    • Surround yourself with confident, self-expressive people. Being around people who are comfortable with themselves can help you feel more confident in your skin. Seek friends and mentors who will support and encourage you to be yourself.
