Today on the show, host Kris Flammang brings guest Patrick Barnes onto the show to discuss personal injury law, estate planning, and Patrick’s experiences as a lawyer. Patrick is a licensed attorney in Florida and Colorado, focusing on the practice areas of personal injury and estate planning. Patrick obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology from Florida State University and his juris doctorate from Florida Coastal School of Law. After graduating from law school, Patrick moved to Denver, Colorado, where he practiced personal injury and workers’ compensation until moving back to Florida in 2018. Patrick understands firsthand how traumatic personal injury can be, and he considers himself trauma-informed, implementing empathy and compassion in his practice. In addition to practicing law, Patrick writes and speaks nationally on the topics of trauma-informed legal practice and attorney well-being.
Together, Kris and Patrick discuss Patrick’s history and background as a Florida native, advice Patrick would give to his younger self, and the importance of self-care for lawyers. They also discuss Patrick’s ideal client, common obstacles they face, and some misconceptions people might have about what he does. They discuss the process of making a client “whole”, and address the general or non-economic damages they might face. Moving forward, they also get into the biggest opportunities and obstacles Patrick sees in the future.
