Stephanie sits down with intuitive eating dietitian Jess Serdikoff. Jess helps burnt-out and unhappy dietitians opt out of hustle culture and reclaim their passion, purpose, and humanity!
Jess owns her own practice, Empowering Dietitians, where she supports new dietitians in putting together a non-diet approach to nutrition counseling, as well as a powerful vision for their careers.
Listen in as Jess gets real about the fear, the struggles, and the risks that come with making a big pivot in your career. To Jess, as long as you’re pivoting in order to better serve your community by contributing to the same cause from a different angle, all while reigniting the same passion you’ve always had, then you’re still on the right path!
“We exist in a system that wants us to conform,” says Jess. “It teaches us to toe the line. When you diverge from how society tells you that you should want, act, work—or what being a healthcare practitioner should look like—you start to feel like you’re the problem. You end up trying to prove yourself in a system that wasn’t designed for you.”
Jess explains how we learn and grow so much more once we learn to embrace vulnerability and “intentional self-disclosure”—and it doesn’t hurt to have the right support group around you all the while!
As healthcare professionals and practice owners, we must be willing to tread new ground knowing that we won’t get it right the first time, and that we never will be perfect anyway. But the more comfortable we are around being imperfect, the greater our ability to stay resilient and turn our new vision into reality!
