Whether you recently ran a race or have a Fall race on the calendar, many athletes enter the summer months in an ‘in-between’ place of training. Fortunately, we can all benefit from periods of running that aren’t strictly focused on a specific goal or PR. 


Following the Boston and London Marathons, we break down how athletes can make the most of their “off-seasons”. 


By understanding the differences of focused and flexible periods of training, you will:

  • Establish the process and outcome-oriented goals of your current training.
  • Follow the most appropriate training plan for your unique goals.
  • Place parameters on your training that provide a framework for growth as an athlete.

  • Allow yourself to embrace an off-season to strengthen weaknesses, develop habits, and explore different styles of training that contribute to your overall abilities as an athlete.
